Greek general Themistocles of Athens (Sullivan Stapleton) leads an army to battle Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and the commander of a Persian army Artemisia (Eva Green).

I quite enjoyed the first 300, plot was mediocre, but the battle scenes were great, and the visuals were stunning. I never cared for a sequel, but I guess they wanted a continuation of Frank Millers comics. While this one had its moment it certainly isn't better than the first. It's pretty much the exact same film with different characters. Enjoyable at times, but unnecessary in my opinion.

The plot is average at best again. The battle scenes while fun was worse this time I feel. The same use of slo-mo was used but the CGI of the blood spatters I thought were pretty bad at times and they didn't have the same impact on me as the first and didn't feel like it complemented the story that well. While some have criticized the overuse of the gore and blood, I may have to agree just based on the poor CGI as I stated. Score and camera work were just as stunning as the first.

Sullivan Stapleton was decent in this film, but he didn't do anything amazing. He is certainly no Gerard Butler, and his presence was greatly missed. Sullivan didn't have that charisma Butler had. The rest of the cast is forgettable except for Eva Green as the villainous commander. She looked like she had a great time with this role and really killed it. The energy and passion were all there from her and she actually felt ruthless. I liked her characters backstory and was the only interesting character to me.

Not a bad film, but it was pretty average and not as good as the first one. 5/10.
