The story of Operation Market Garden—a failed attempt by the allies in the latter stages of WWII to end the war quickly by securing three bridges in Holland allowing access over the Rhine into Germany. A combination of poor allied intelligence and the presence of two crack German panzer divisions meant that the final part of this operation (the bridge in Arnhem over the Rhine) was doomed to failure.

First off - WHAT A CAST! Just unbelievable. I consider myself a minor history buff and I knew nothing of Operation Market-Garden, the real World War II battle that this is based on. This is one of a very few WWII movies that don't have the Allies coming out victorious. It really made me start wondering if the Brits get tired of us making Field Marshall Montgomery look like a buffoon in all of our movies. The cinematography was outstanding throughout the three hours here, but I have to single out the paratroop scenes. The multiple camera angles from the ground and air were blended nicely to paint an amazing picture of the jumpers. This is a must see for any World War II movie buff.

Great cast, but movie was lacking. After Saving Private Ryan, every war movie seems like it is just kids in the backyard playing war. Storyline follows the typical analysis of Market Garden.

Top critics enjoy saying this film is overlong and wastes a great cast. Yet, normal people at least get that A Bridge Too Far is a classic. With some of the best battle scenes ever shot on film. The great cast definitely helps keep your attention throughout. The musical score just makes the movie sound like a feel good action comedy. When it is in fact pretty gloomy.

Arguably the movie with the most (male) film stars ever assembled. The cast is nothing lees than astounding. The film not so much. While other war movies paint the same picture that war is senseless, this movie questions not only war but the movie itself. I first saw A Bridge too Far when I was ten More

Usually when you read the term "stellar" applied to a cast, it's more for marketing purposes to convince us that the cast is better than we might want to think - well not so, here. Connery, Caine, O'Neal, Olivier, Bogarde, Hackman, Hopkins, Caan, Schell & Liv Ullmann all chip into this true telling More

How do spoilers work with historical movies? Can we reasonably assume that everyone already knows how Market Garden turned out, or are we doing the Millennial thing where we are assuming people don't know where Arnhem is, let alone Antwerp, let alone Holland, let alone who participated in WWII?
