I've watched the film a few times now, and by the end of it, I'm always left wondering if Bobby loves Jonathan like a brother or a lover. A part of me feels like Bobby was so lost in the world losing all of his family members at such a young age that he almost.... imprinted... on Jonathan and his mother. They made him feel not alone, which is the worst thing imaginable for him. So I feel like he would do anything to make Jonathan happy, even be his lover. I guess, in the end, it doesn't matter because he chose to stay with Jonathan. His commitment, loyalty and his love is so clearly towards Jonathan that he'd choose a life with him, even though he knows it can't last forever... he will be alone again.

I'm going to read the book that it's based on to see if it gives more insight into Bobby's character.
