This is nominated for Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film. I enjoyed it - loved the character and the journey from isolation to interdependence to community. I give it a 9 (truly great) out of 10. They call it a comedy/drama, but the humour is from the everyday absurdity of human nature and how we live out life (or try to escape it). Great nomination, and, for me, this sets the bar as the one to beat in this category of the Oscar, but, I still have the other four nominees to see, and _The Salesman_ seems to be the front runner for the critics.

Really fucking good. I don't watch swedish movies very often(even though I am swedish), but when I do, THIS is what I want to see.
I'd recommend it to anyone.

This was a very nice movie adaptation of a very amazing book, which succeeded to give back a lot of the source material. Still, I recommend reading the book first, if you have the chance, since - especially near the ending - the movie felt a bit rushed, and it definitely makes this movie more enjoyable if you know all the details.
Either way don't let the synopsis fool you, this one is a very emotional movie with lots of laughter and tears both. Well done, Sweden!

I can't make up my mind about this one's rating. The story provides absolutely nothing that hasn't been seen before. Quite the opposite, you'll only get exactly what you'd expect from a tale about lonely old grumpy man, warming up to his environment.
But because it's well done and has charm, I'll add one point to the 6/10, that the script would actually deserve.

Heartwarming and unexpectedly romantic, a good blend of dark comedy and drama. Great cast but a bit overacted and predictable. Non the less very warm and enjoyable that will tear you up if you are not overly cynical or a sociopath.

Do you look into a tree trunk, look from the roof, climb onto a stool? It’s not as important as if life has lost its meaning. You’re old, everyone infuriates you with their inability, they don’t love you back. Only the cat smiles, they can’t do without you! Who can show What’s the right way? But it’s too early to die, we still have hygge things to do!

Loved this simple story. The acting and overall story telling was great. I will watch this again in a year or so for sure.

[HBO Max] A bittersweet comedy that shows its interest in being likeable too much, but which contains very intelligent references to the weaknesses of Nordic societies, represented in an excessive but significantly well-developed character. Although it has a tendency to melodrama that implores emotion, especially in the third act, it manages to elaborate a relevant discourse on the human being and coexistence. And it hides under the surface of a simple and superficial comedy a melancholy that makes it especially enjoyable.

One of the best Swedish films of the modern era, you laugh and cry all through the film. I also really recommend reading the book by Fredrik Backman as it's a true masterpiece!
