It's not a bad movie but you spend so long asking where is this going that you start to lose a bit of interest once you figure out where you are. That being said, it would still totally work if the acting were a step up, slot in two really good actors to play these leads and you've got a movie that really works. Tomasz Kot's accent was almost unbearable to listen to, and Athena Strates was just missing something the entire performance. Felt like soap opera actors.

A Perfect Enemy is a clear example of production values and acting talent detracting from a clearly impressive narrative that would have done much better if told under different circumstances. The story here clearly has a lot to say and has a clever spin; it could have been done impressively, but the amateur acting chops of the leads really pull down any tension or believability. A shame, but I still got a kick out of the story and it's revelations, so it's not all bad. Maybe I should have just read the book.

[Sitges] Failed adaptation of a correct mystery novel. The decision to transform the character of Texel Textor adds deficiencies to the story, because the central story does not make much sense. But the scriptwriters take refuge in the psychological element to justify everything. A poor casting choice doesn't help either. There are some moments of visual force, but it fails to solve the many narrative problems.
