I watched this documentary in 2017 - as a foreigner surprised by how the US seems to have changed in the last few months.

More so than any of the statistics or infographics I have seen, this bought home to me how the US isn't all Silicon Valley, New York and Washington - the parts of the US that the rest of the world see. It is the story of how hard working people living in the most developed Western country in the world have missed out on the economic prosperity, how a capitalist country seems to have forgotten the so many people as a few ultra wealthy people and their lobbyist skew the morals of their society.

I live on the other side of the world and see child poverty around me, and many of the same issues but A Place at the Table made it a much more human story by following a few engaging people struggling to get through their daily life and look after their (and other peoples) kids . It wasn't the greatest documentary ever, but it was a touching story.

And I never would have guessed that Jeff Bridges was so involved and passionate.
