Next time my girlfriend says how much she likes Nicolas Cage, I’ll remind her how bad this movie was.

Low-budget paint-by-numbers movie that doesn't fail to entertain. The plot twist at the end of the movie got spoiled for me by people unable to use the spoilertag on this site (and my own stupidity of opening the comments) but it didn't remove from my enjoyment of the movie.

There are better movies out there but there are many worse, even with Nicolas Cage.

Nicolas Cage has A Score to Settle in this low-budget revenge thriller. After getting an early medical release from prison Frank Carver retrieves a hidden stash of mob money and attempts to make up for lost time with his son, but secretly he hunts down former members of his crew that betrayed him. Cage gives a strong performance, as does co-star Benjamin Bratt. However, the film's big twist is telegraphed right from the start, and only become more obvious as it goes on. Still, it does add an extra dimension to an otherwise formulaic plot. A mediocre film, A Score to Settle is a pretty by-the-numbers crime drama.

Here's the thing: Cage has been in much worse films in recent years. He's clearly in it to make money for his tax bills or whatever. This movie isn't awful - it's not great - but it's not terrible. A standard revenge tale with a couple of twists, it's made watchable by Cage himself. Let's just hope he is given a chance to make better movies in the near future.

This was not one of his better movies, and it took me until halfway through the movie to realize that his son was already dead (a ghost.) Maybe I am just slow like that. In any event, good storyline, great character portrayal by Cage.

All work and no rage makes Cage a dull boy.

I had tje same perspective as some other viewers commented here. It's not a bad movie nor good, but N. Cage had made much worst movie lately and this one seems good in comparison.

The title is kind of misleading but maybe that was done purposefully; I don't know, but this was a run-of-the-mill action/drama kind of movie. Not your typical (at least not in my experience) Nicolas Cage movie; certainly not his best work, but I definitely wouldn't call this "boring". It kept my attention, and remained true to form. Another sudden ending that had that rushed _"Gee we're all out of ideas; let's wrap this up and call it done…"_ feel to it. By the way, the artwork for this movie is really kind of misleading; not sure what all the fire in the background is about but anyways....yeah, it's worth watching.
