I pushed back watching this for a while now. I did not want to go through what I went through when I watched Clannad. Yet here I am... feeling so down after watching this amazing piece of art. It makes me wonder what kind of life I'm living, and why I feel so empty after watching Anime such as this one.

Friendship is an amazing thing, but not everyone gets to experience it... Anxiety, depression, social awkwardness, etc. This Anime really puts that into perspective, among many other things.

My final thoughts: If you have not watched this yet, or you are trying to decide whether you should, please know that this Anime is an emotional roller coaster, and you will likely cry or feel very depressed after watching this. I pushed back watching this because I did not want to cry, but I watched it tonight and have no regrets. Watch this masterpiece when you are ready, and don't force yourself into it. I'm glad I waited.

This is actually pretty terrible.

You cannot claim to depict a person who is deaf with her only character traits being deafness and feeding fish.
And her "repentant" bully who continually exposes her to her abusers only realises his folly after becoming a victim himself. Constant themes of suicide and depression with no real method of addressing it except to have the movie say "If you have friends you won't be depressed or suicidal anymore, yay!"

A Silent Voice is about coming to terms with the past while learning to live in the present.

The entire cast of characters is unique, clearly living their own lives and dealing with their own problems. Even when they aren't wholly sympathetic or right, it is possible to understand the reasoning for their actions. Their mistakes are not excused, but they learn and grow from them, and the suffering and regret Ishida, the main character, goes through helps him grow and move on, without ever thinking what he did was excusable in any way.

The movie also deals with depression and anxiety in a sensitive and quite real way. Ishida's fear of looking and opening himself to people is delivered in an artistically entrancing manner that precisely shows how he feels. Both Ishida and Nishimiya's depression come forward in different ways, but they are intense, and their struggles to overcome it are clear.

Beautiful and painful, A Silent Voice is a heartbreaking but still optimistic and hopeful look on life and the consequences we have to deal with for a long time, both from our actions and others'.

Good film and that's about where it sits for me. It's not a masterpiece and it's not a tragedy. The emotional impact in elements of the film are lessened by how little character development we have outside the lead male role. The deaf girl is subject to skirt and leg shots, with no defining traits other than her apologising nature for everything. The core story about friendships, growing up and accepting or facing elements of your life you don't like is commendable but it just doesn't feel like the payoff is worth it. I was left wanting something more from the main plot, it doesn't need to be a traditional redemption arc but the whole story kinda comes to a halt.

It's well animated and visually pretty to watch.

This was such an incredibly powerful movie. Even a couple days later after watching it, I keep coming back to it, feeling like I should watch it again. Either I might’ve missed something the first time or maybe I just want to ride the roller coaster again. There’s an incredible gravity to this film just keeps trying to pull me back in. I play the scenes again and again in my head and the emotions of it all swell within me.

This was such a moving journey of bullying, self-hate, suicide, and perhaps, redemption. I will never think about the depression around me the same way, and because of this movie, I will never, ever hesitate to reach out to those around me. Just one hand can pull someone back from the brinks of despair and every life is worth it.

This awesome movie moved me. It made me cry. I felt sad in the mid and was happy in the end. I was hoping them to be couple in the end. But that's good too.

The story was good and the movie was emotional but the foundation of the movie was weak because I don't see any logic in sending a deaf kid to normal school. It's like giving them one more thing to cry about. The teachers did not give her any special attention and she was bullied and it looked liked the school didn't care for her at all.
When Shouya start's getting bullied it was really confusing I thought they were flashbacks for a minute.Great character development of Shouya can't say the same for shoko.
Shouya's fat friend was funny and I loved the way they show how Shouya blocks the world through those purple crosses.

While the film is certainly geared towards teenagers, I was still able to enjoy the focus of the story (bullying and friendship) and animation in one of the better animés that I've seen of late.

While _A Silent Voice_ suffers from a lack of editing and a sprawling plot line (typical of films made from manga series), the overall film is touching.
