I, genuinely, was left speechless. Even now... I'm finding it difficult to put together coherent, unbiased, thoughts on the film; even Daryl himself. While I found it difficult to empathize with him (which happens so rarely; like a comet passing by every century or so), I found my self wanting to look away while in the same token I couldn't help but stare.

This film isn't just about the KKK, but rather a more fundemental aspect of the human psyche and its toll on our emotions and thoughts. Fear breeds more fear. Anger breeds more anger. Hate breeds more hate. The best way to defeat these self destructive emotions that cause us to become blinded by red is surprisingly simple, but incredibly difficult to accomplish; difficult, but not impossible.

There was a single constant thought that did come to mind about a quarter of the way through the film and that was Sun Tzus Art of War, The Attack by Strategem. "Better to capture the enemy's army intact, than to overcome it after fierce resistence". Now, I'd like to make it clear that I do NOT believe that is Daryls intention. Rather, it's something more fundemental. He even plainly states this later in the film. It's about bringing all of us together, moving forward together; and I believe this is his message.

He is right when he states that fighting and hating each other is NOT the answer. Instead, we should become friends, make peace, break bread, break our belief systems, and build a foundation on a something we can ALL, EQUALLY, stand on TOGETHER. He has the capacity and the temperment to push all of us in this country in the right direction. We just have to be willing to see it.
