This was a really intelligent, witty and well-written film with a killer cast (as usual Hepburn and Tracy have amazing chemistry; when they act together, the sparks just fly and it doesn't feel like they're "acting" as a married couple), and it's still relevant today as we continue to see the issues and arguments of gender equality between Tracy and Hepburn's characters still being played out in homes and courts in 2017. I was pleasantly surprised just how independent and strong Amanda was. I was worried that the director and writers were going to make her back down and decide to give up her career and be just the wife, instead of the competitor at the end, but I'm really glad they didn't do that. Judy Holliday stole the show as Doris. She held her own amongst Tracy and Hepburn in her debut film. After seeing this, I am not surprised that she ended up taking off and becoming a big star in her own right a year later with Born Yesterday. It was great to see Tom Ewell and Jean Hagen here as well in minor roles. And of course, the hilarious licorice scene. Didn't expect that! -- I'm really surprised they didn't do a sequel, because the ending seemed to set it up for that. I would have loved to have seen them duking it out in DC. --
