I’m not sure I buy the timeline. I’m not sure real people could reconcile themselves to this level of discovery and forced change. That said it is an interesting story and watching the juxtaposition of these two women characters played by these two dynamic actresses was intriguing. If I had any suggestions, I would say to drop all but the essential plot points and let the relationship between these women breathe and pulse. That would have been an awesome movie.

@maphiagurl You make a good script doctor! : ) I thought the movie terrible on almost all counts—but you're right, focusing on strange evolution between two matriarchs based on the premise could have been engaging. Interesting, I'm learning the filmmaker (Bart Freundlich) has worked quite a bit with both Moore and Crudup. Rather than going deeper with his great cast, the entire gang seems to be getting more pretentious. Too bad.

much more gutting than i remember but probably ive just grown up.

i liked this but so much of it was contrived and rushed—_very_ odd pacing that undermined a lot of the decisions and actions—that it came off hollow, insincere. the performances (with the exception of the dad not sure what was going on there at all dude was reading those lines like a hostage) were touching, convincing and engaging.

‘knew you for a moment’ song of all time still.

An American remake of a Danish film, After the Wedding is a captivating character drama. When the manager of an Indian orphanage comes to New York to secure funding from a wealthy businesswoman she soon discovers that her potential benefactor has an ulterior motive. Starring Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, and Billy Crudup, and film has a solid cast that delivers some good performances. However, the script is a little thin and the pacing is kind of slow. Yet while it has some weaknesses, After the Wedding is a powerful film about love and family.

There is much to love about this movie, not least the performances of Williams and Moore. The story is good too, hitting all of the emotional beats the plot relies on to keep one interested. As one person alluded on this page, the character change of one central character seems a little rushed. However, this is the only misstep in this complicated, sometimes gut-punching movie.

Michelle Williams has to be one, of a handful, of truly remarkable dramatic actresses. And, Julianne Moore matched her emotion by emotion in this piece. This was a good movie but the acting made it a great movie. The story was full blooded but it was as if the writers didn't know how to end it. For a story so rooted in personal journeys the pivotal character seems left to find her own way. Her sacrifice is unrequited (however another viewer may find a resolution I didn't). Based mostly on the dramatic performances, I give this film an 8 (great) out of 10. [Drama]
