A little better than the first film, After We Collided is a teen drama about destructive relationships. Retconning the ending of the first film, Tessa doesn’t forgive Hardin and moves to take an internship, but their attraction to each other soon brings them back to together. The acting isn’t very good, but the characters are more interesting this time (partly because they’re better written). Yet there are some confounding re-casts. Also, the tone is more sexual, switching to an R rating, which, while it feels right for the material, seems like a desperate move to attract audiences. After We Collided moves the series in the right direction, but it still has too much melodrama and angst.

Really sad how the movie made these characters so superficial, Hardin's trauma is just a poorly done flashback and Tessa is a trainwreck. Not to mention that all the other characters are just cardboard pawns with no personality or context at all. Just read the books if you're interested in the story (but if you wanna watch for the hot scenes then sure, you're gonna love it).

After We Collided is fond of quoting Wuthering Heights, but it owes more to Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey (the novel, called After, whose film adaptation this is the sequel to, originally appeared on Wattpad, where every asshole can publish regardless of whether or not they should).

I've sat through much more painful slogs, but 'After we Collided' gave me two hours of insane plot - and while I forgot everything as soon as I left, I'll be back over the next couple of years just to enjoy my cheesy mess in this strange unnecessary franchise.
