Why cant parodies be done like this now?

So many gags, the choice of actors is fantastic, its hard to believe now that this was Leslie Neilson's first ever comic role, but all the actors here were chosen because they always played it straight and that just adds to the comedy. Simply one of the best comedies of all time.

Completely over the top comedy, but if you're in the right mood you'll be laughing all the time. Lots of bizarre situations, funny quotes and memorable characters. One of the best parodies I've ever seen!

I re-watched this recently for the first time in many decades. I had told my kids that it was the funniest movie ever made, so the bar was high. All these years later, it still mostly hangs up. The movie was so original that it isn't surprising that other movies may have eventually done it better. I still have more quotes from this movie than any other.

"Airplane!" is, was and always shall be the master of spoof movies. It is single-handedly responsible for literally inventing a sub-genre of comedy. It is the ultimate Silly Movie. A satire of the disaster movies of the 1970s, particularly the "Airport" series, nothing makes sense and it doesn't need to. There's no real plot. Just laughs - and plenty of 'em.

I'm glad I've seen this. I probably won't watch it again though. I think a lot of jokes fell short on me due to the time it was made and a lot of the other jokes were silly to me. I brushed this off however as it is a parody. I didn't dislike it, I just felt neutral about most of it.

I've watched it because it received a lot of praise, but I didn't find it that funny. I wonder what others see in this, most of the jokes are pretty silly, and many of them have aged pretty badly.

Airplane! is very, very funny, and one of the best comedies ever made.

Highly entertaining and highly rewatchable.

...but that's not important right now.

You need to watch it!!!

The biggest homage I can pay to this beautifully structured film with attention to detail to boot is that you can cut it into vignettes and make it into a sketch show that would rival most.

One of the better spoof films out there, not all the jokes land but the majority are hilarious. A fun film.

Hadn't properly seen this in ages. Still as good as ever, all the most famous bits are just as funny as you remember them being. The flashbacks aren't that funny, but even then, when they come back to present day there's always a fade in gag that is hilarious.

A lampooning of ‘70s disaster movies, Airplane! delivers some deadly laughs. The film is mainly a parody of Zero Hour! and Airport, but there are also spoofs of Jaws, Saturday Night Fever, and more. Yet most of the humor comes from the sight gags and the slapstick. But, there’s just too much of it; as the jokes don’t really get a chance to breath. However, the strong cast is able to make a lot of the material work. Surely, Airplane! is a landmark film in the parody genre…”and don’t call me Shirley.”

This is one of my favourite movies, so funny! You need to really listen for all the one liners are mixed with regular dialogue but when you hear the joke..... that’s the payoff! Great
Great performance by Peter Graves, great character. Special props to the auto pilot man.

I’ve laughed at the slapstick, scatter-shot humor of “Airplane!” many times over the years. It’s endlessly quotable and mercilessly stupid and some would say entirely offensive. This movie holds a special place for me as it’s one of the earliest examples of a comedy that I can remember that wasn’t popular with my parents. Its humor was a breakaway from the Carol Burnett/Red Skelton/Odd Couple humor that surrounded me as a youngling. It was dirty with its sex and drug references. I didn’t understand half the jokes but I loved it anyway because it wasn’t something that belonged to my parents.

Watching it again recently, it’s still funny and I love the road it paved for more dumb comedies like “Police Squad” and “The Naked Gun”. But some of its jokes aren't exactly timeless and a few are even groan-inducing.

I could sit here and type out my favorite gags and quotes, but if you are reading this you probably know them all anyway. “Airplane!” is undoubtedly a movie that I’ll always have a soft spot for.
