Disney’s 2019 version of Aladdin provides us with pleasant surprises and a few hiccups along the ride on the magic carpet. Agrabah looks amazing, you totally feel the Arabian vibe and still is a city with more depth then in the original animated movie with more cultures mixed into one. Jasmine has a well written storyline which is not only fitting for the time we live in now, it’s also very in depth and gives her even more of an edge. She truly outshines the animated Jasmine. Mena’s performance is almost identical to the original. Great acting and good looks. Although I was more anticipated for the Genie’s performance, it was Jafar who surprised me, but not always in a good way. I liked this style and Jafar being younger and more appealing. Marwan showed us great acting by letting us feel Jafar truly is dangerous. What I missed though are iconic moments the animated movie showed us like turning into a snake, make genie lift up the castle and being the old poor man who tricks Aladdin into the cave of wonders, which wasn’t all that wonderous to me at all. The feeling of the cave popping up from the sand was something I really missed, the interior though is flawless and well put together. Aladdin started of stronger then it ended but overall, this new adaptation left me ‘Speechless’ thanks to its wonderful cast, set design and refreshing plots.

@frankjacob I disagree, I never once felt Jafar was dangerous. In fact, I nearly burst into a fit of giggles whenever he tried to appear menacing and ended up sounding more like a flipping care bear.

Was not impressed. It's an ok 6/10 movie if you never saw the original and have no reference point. Otherwise, it's 4/10.

This movie is a case of 'If ain't broke, don't fix it'. The animated version is superior in every way. The story structure, the songs, the characters, and the visuals.

Will Smith is doing his best, but man... He can't pull a Robin Williams. I got quite disappointed with the songs. They are the most iconic parts of the movie. In the remake, they felt flat and unexciting.

In the animated version, I really felt impressed when the
'Prince Ali' song played. I felt that if I were a princess this would really impress me. But in the live-action, I just felt like MEH. It's the same with 'A whole new world' song. Where it looks like Aladdin really shows Jasmine a whole new world. Yet in the live-action, it was just a boring sequence.
It's funny how they managed to do it because the songs lyrics are exactly the same.

The actress who plays Jasmine sings really well, the others though can't quite make it.

Of course, this being 2019 so we have to shoehorn
'I'm a strong independent woman'
into the movie. Even though the original Jasmine was plenty of
strong and independent. And in contrast to the live-action, she also acted as a strong character and not just told us she is one.
In the odd case, you never saw the original, please treat yourself and watch it. It is leagues better than this one.

Why do people hate this movie????
If you do a live action THIS was as cloae to perfection as you could get. True to every aspect of the caryoon and honoring the memory of Robin Williams without Will 's Genie trampling on the iconic cartoon portrayal. Visually stunning. Music was spot on.

I was kind of disappointed in this movie. I was expecting it to be a lot better then it was. It's not bad or a good movie.

While I am fully prepared to admit that I hated this slightly less than I expected to, I also officially give up on Guy Ritchie. Disney's original _Aladdin_ is not one of my favourite Disney flicks, but I do like it. And although I'm sure there are people out there who will appreciate this live action do-over more than me, I do find it difficult to believe anyone would think this one is the better of the two versions.

_Final rating:★★ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._
