The term "American movie" is often taken to mean big budget action blockbuster, but this is the most American movie you will ever see. It is as big as the entire country, as rambling as its routes and has all of the heart of the heartland. Just like America, there is no beginning, no middle, no end, just life. No good guy, no bad guy, just people being themselves. If you are looking for a traditional film with characters and scripts and plot twists, this isn't for you. If you're looking for an sincere look at the real America, if you want to hear their accents and feel their roads and smell summer on their skin, then this will take you to the middle of the country for the price of a ticket and 2 1/2 hours of your day.

"You know what Darth Vader looks like beneath that mask? He's a skeleton. Just like the rest of us".

'American Honey' is a beautiful made film that takes the audience on an non-stop road trip. Despite the runtime which I had an issue with some scenes, but didn't ruin the overall experience. The soundtrack itself was a show stealer.

Andrea Arnold, a foreigner, enters the American dream and the modern youth. With this movie however, I think it's gonna be hard for her to top this one. The sense of freedom and naturalism, making it almost documentary-like. Andrea is another director I'm keeping my eye on for her next project.

Shia LaBeouf delivers one of his best performance I've seen from him; Transformers? Never heard of it. An impressive film debut from Sasha Lane, which surprised me this is her first movie. She's going places, I can tell you that.

Looking back at 2016, you start to see a lot of great original cinema you may overlooked at the time. This is one of them.

Andrea Arnold is an oscar winning director, she's no spring chicken and knows her way around. Maybe that's a factor when considering that the performances in this movie are nothing short of incredible. Loads of first timers. Loads of inexperienced kids. How she has got these performances out of this cast is nothing short of mesmerising.

The movie is long, lets be honest. But it is very rewarding and is a very accomplished way of exploring society's values and attitudes towards youngsters, poverty, opportunities etc. I found large similarities between this and her short 'wasp'. Which is no bad thing. The film also looks amazing.

I'd probably find a place for this in my top 10 of 2016.

American Honey is an epic portrait of modern youth. I think this movie will only gain significance over the years. Sasha Lane shows lots of potential in a leading role and Shia LaBeouf probably has the best role of his career to date.

If you love movies like "Gummo", "Kids" or "Suburbia" then you will really love this movie. Its got a great cast and the acting is top notch. Watching this movie I almost felt it could qualify as a musical. Great sound track.

It's a slice-of-life type of movie. It's not plot-driven. I was very invested in these kids lives so the length didn't bother me at all.

>Star: *"Do you have any dreams?"*
Jake: *"Like future dreams?"*

Escaping a toxic relationship and taking a shot at a better life... ultimately a search for a family and freedom. ***American Honey*** is a coming of age story that takes a hard look at young people and their chase and struggle for the American dream. At times very sad, raw, thought-provoking. I like that the community feels free but there's always an undertone that says otherwise, they're all prisoners really, or are they?

Sasha Lane is excellent as our main character and by the end she felt very fleshed out as a character. Some interesting characters feel unexplored and that's a shame though. Whenever Riley Keough is on-screen she steals the spotlight, I wanted more of her. Shia LaBeouf can act in this one he surprised me.

There's one hell of a good playlist to be done with all the songs throughout. The romance parts are probably the least appealing to me but it creates some interesting interactions. I would trim this 20-30 minutes, it was a bit long. Overall, it was good road trip!

Those cowboys creeped me the hell out

This film reminds me a bunch of The Florida Project. It’s a dark and gritty, yet realistic adaptation of life. Shia LaBeouf really nails this role. While it’s a hard one to suggest to everyone, I was captivated from start to finish.

This was a really interesting watch, even if it basically didn't have a plot. It's not a movie about a story, it's a movie about people, and a reality I'm not at all familiar with, so had fun getting to know - that is if the portrait is a faithful one. The driving force of the movie, though, was the relationship between
Star and Jake
, because I'm a sucker for these kind of reckless, obsessive, crazy passionate couples and
Sasha and Shia
had amazing chemistry. Don't think I'll ever rewatch this, but I definitely don't regret watching it at all, even considering how neverending it seemed. Oh and also, some shots in this are absolutely gorgeous, so so pretty!! Even if I did find the camera too shaky at times (in
Star and Jake's second sex scene you become REALLY aware they're being filmed and it kind of ruins the moment, i don't know if the camera movement that extreme was intentional or not, but in that particular scene, i was not a fan
).

it's very hard to describe American Honey, on paper and by the plot it should just be boring and mundane, and while yes there wasn't much going on throughout the film, very basic. It felt very natural and sincere in the message it was trying to deliver. I am not from the US so I cannot state whether it's true, but American Honey felt like a very true representation of what the US is all about, I felt like I was there with them on this road trip, just life in general going by.

Also a definitely nod to the soundtrack which was absolutely BRILLIANT! Just an overall good and honest film, no big budgets or high speed car chases, no good guy vs bad guy needed here, just honest cinematic. Glad I finally got round to watching this.
