It's incredibly tough to watch at times, but it feels so honest that it also manages to be an incredibly touching film. They get some amazing shots out if the little flat they live in. Like Wes Anderson without the quirkiness, and replaced with the brutal honesty of life.

It is very dramatic. The absence of music gives too much realism in every scene. Emmanuelle Riva's performance is absolutely great.

"Amour" depicts the physical decline of a stubborn elderly couple in a raw and unfiltered manner, without leaning to spectacle or impressing the viewer with visual tricks. Despite appreciating its extreme naturalism, I must admit that I found the execution somewhat sterile and distant from my personal preferences. It's not that I didn't like it, but I struggle to perceive it as the masterpiece everyone talks about.

Despite not being nearly as well executed as “Amour”, I preferred the slightly more personal and bleak approach of Noé's "Vortex."

"Things will go on, and then one day it will all be over."

Director Michael Haneke is a master of horror and showing us our greatest fear, which so happens to be a part of life.

A sensitive and devastating love story.

As an old professor of mine would say, this movie is “very French.” (Yes, I know Haneke is Austrian.) But while it’s not my favorite foreign movie of this century (not even my favorite Haneke movie of this century) it’s still quite devastating.

It's heartbreaking and brave and extremely raw, but it was also painfully slow. It will leave an impression for years to come I'm sure, definitely one of the most unforgettable movies I've ever watched. Not everyone would have the guts to tell this story, in this way, my hat's off to Michael Haneke.

Haneke's finest? Certainly up there with the ones that I've seen. The 2 lead performances are astounding. It's a devastating, heartbreaking film. I'm still reeling from it.

This film is like a decent splinter. It hurts to hell, and as you remove it you will have a scar.

A foreign language film also nominated in several "mainstream" categories, including Best Picture. It's bleak and depressing, but very good with some great performances. As an elderly couple deal with the wife's partial paralysis from a stroke and she gets progressively worse, their bonds of love are tested. Obviously, it's not a happy go lucky movie. But it's also brutally honest about life, love, and family when a loved one becomes very ill. The main problem I had was the ending, which I really found pulled me out of the movie as it was out of character and felt tacked on, like they were showing a tragic slice of life, but didn't know how to make the bookends. Good, but not sure I'd call it great, nor is it an easy movie to watch.
