Spoliers...

Kind of two parts two it. The initial horror story and then someone watching that story in a cinema. Yes it's a horror within a horror. Many say this is original but it's not. It is suprising when it happens as it's about half way into the movie. I got to say that director did an awesome job. Some of the early scenes are really surreal without being pretentious. Some are squirmish, which I don't usually see captured that well or at all in a horror movie. This was done with delicate squishy sounds and slimy imagery in a delicate way. Shot well. Super effective. The story in the first part get silly but it's fine as it's revealed to be just a movie within the real movie. I needed that because the silliness and plot of tne movie was beginning to lose me a bit. Seemed a good twist.

After this reveal that it was a movie within a movie the real movie didn't ramp up in tension, horror or interesting ideas for me. The plot became a worried girl waiting for the inevitable. It was predictable and I wouldn't mind that but there was no suspense or horror left. I think it didn't help that seeing people in seats watching a movie was a lot less visually stimulating than what we had seen previously in the fictional movie. This is where we needed really good dialogue and characters to take over.
I can understand it being a cult classic and I recommend it. For me it was an OK movie that had some good and bad. I admire the effort? Could have bee so much more.
