Pros:
- Overall, the story is solid and surprisingly coherent.
- Thanos is great.
- Performances. The ones by Zoe Saldana (!), Josh Brolin and Benedict Cumberbatch in particular.
- The CGI during sequences without action.
- Keeps moving, great pace (I wasn’t overwhelmed by it at all).
- It has stakes, and gets very dark and dour, but not in a murky Zack Snyder way.
- It’s also fun and funny, but this doesn’t conflict with the darkness (transitions very well from scene to scene).
- The visuals during the space scenes, feels LOTR-esque at times.
- Managed to make me care about some characters I couldn’t stand in their previous film (
talking about Thor, Rocket, Groot and Mantis here
)
- Character interactions.
- Character arcs for
Wanda/Vision and Gamora/Thanos.
- Emotional as a result of that. Doesn’t feel as soulless as Civil War.

Cons:
- Most of the action is unimpressive due to overediting and digital replacements.
- The ending just doesn’t work for me (
good idea to do a mic drop, but everyone with a brain knows these deaths will be undone, so it didn’t do much for me. Would’ve preferred one more actual death.
)
- Takes too many leaps; doesn’t always perfectly connect with the previous MCU movies ( e.g.
missing characters like Korg and Valkyrie; Thanos already having a stone; and even the way Civil War is resolved between Cap and Rhodey doesn’t work
)
- The visuals during the earth scenes are not strong enough for a 300 million Dollar movie.
- Mark Ruffalo’s acting during some scenes still feels phoney to me.

@jordyep Mark Ruffalo was terrible in this, thought he did alright in Ragnarok, but this...he looked like he just got out of bed in every scene and still needed to have his coffee.

@jordyep What do you mean by Civil War as soulless?

@jarvis-3326813 That’s actually a result of several reasons. I felt that the conflict in Civil War wasn’t properly set up, nor explored. Therefore, I didn’t feel all that much during the airport or final battle. The second reason, which isn’t nearly as substantial as the first, is the fact that everything looks so washed out and bland, which doesn’t exactly add a flavour to the film. It’s a style that worked for TWS, but I feel like CW should’ve been more grand and operatic in its style.

It’s not the worst example though. There was a certain movie released around the same period (that had the same plot as CW) that one could describe as the definition of soulless.

@bsrbara alright, cool, that’s your opinion. I just think the toned down, Joss Whedon version of the character works a hell of a lot better.
