This was supposedly "based on a true story" but I'm curious as to the actual "true story" itself. Bears are, for the most part, herbivores (although they eat grubs and other insects) and are not known to attack humans and in most cases, only attack when provoked or when defending their own young. Here we seem to have a black bear that decides human flesh is its newest favorite, so it attacks - unprovoked - a couple of tenderfoot campers. There really was no substance to this film at all, and I suppose if it really _is_ based on a "true story", that story was highly, HIGHLY embellished to even eke out a mere 90 minutes here. It wasn't a "bad" movie at all, just really exaggerated and embellished. You have a full hour-and-a-half movie of which only the final 30 minutes even matters; the preceding hour is essentially nothing...NOTHING... except some kind of goofy false build-up to make you think something terrible is going to befall this couple that didn't belong in the woods to begin with. I'll stop short of saying I "regret wasting 90 minutes" on this but I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else bother with it. There really is nothing to see here. The cover art tells the story without you wasting your time.

Bottom Line: This was a 90-minute highly-exaggerated story that could've been recapped in about 120 seconds on a "top o' the hour" newsreel.
