Mediocre.. 4/10 rating?? This is probably the most accessible Malick film out there. I guess there's no accounting for taste...

I’ve only seen a few from Martin sheen, young years and he’s a good actor and plays his role great and i kinda felt sorry for his character, think that’s a first for a criminal.

well I enjoyed it and it was similar to Bonnie and Clyde In some ways..

Overrated. Nothing was thrilling to watch. Even scenes that should have been suspenseful or exciting had no impact. The dad dies. Who cares? The relationship seemed empty. There should have been a gold mine of interesting ideas there. None. Holly had a voice over where she is poetic, yet in the movie the most poetic she gets its saying 'I found a dead chicken this morning.' Total mismatch. The voice over was contrived to try and give some meaning. Maybe the person who made the movie concluded how empty it was, and this was his solution to inject some life? The characters weren't fleshed out enough to make us understand their actions or care. It seemed the story telling didn't have the viewer in mind. It looks nice though.

>Maybe the person who made the movie concluded how empty it was, and this was his solution to inject some life?

@moonkodi That's exactly what happened! It is generally accepted that Terrence Malick, realizing in the edit suite that the film needed something to make it watchable, added the VOs which became his trademark.

Badlands was okay. I didn't really care much about anything that happened and it all felt very bland. Terrence Malick is a lot better with the visual storytelling style he developed later in his career.

so before its time...relevant in todays world. Some people will do anything for an image...nothing much has changed. " Hey you remind me of that James Dean" ..sums up the film. To give this a 4 and say it is mediocre is crazy...its about the fastest paced Malick your gonna see :). Sissy Spacek absolutely beautiful. The criterion is fantastic.

The only fun I got out of this was used as a time capsule. lots of antiques and old cars plus some scenery you don't usually see in movies.

This is Malick's best film, and one of the best films ever made.

It was less of a lustful romance and more of a spiritual one between these two. This makes it stand out from others of its kind but it’s still about a criminal chasing his image and notoriety. The camera work is very good.

Terrance Malick made one of the most sweetest movies about serial killers I've ever seen. The fact this is his direct debut and how skillful directed is impressive. Best film debuts of all time.

While a slow drift with it's pacing, but what keeps us so invested is two great performers from Sheen and Spacek, and the breaking taking cinematography. Like a feeling of peace. Not the type of characters you usually follow in a movie about love and freedom; love is strange.

The 1970s version of Natural Born Killers. Back when films were about nuance and didnt have to shove every gory detail in your face

I don't remember why I wanted to see this...

It's pretty slow going. Hard to keep attention to it.

Flat. Awkward. Nothing gelled. Malick became a master, but this was forgettable.

One of my former professors taught this film when he was able to teach film studies. The man has great taste in cinema.
