It was fascinating to see the behind the scenes of a ballet being made, as my background knowledge is more in theatre. It's very interesting to see how different the ballet crowd is compared to the theatre crowds I'm used to. The ballet dancers seem to be much more serious with less joking around, random chatter, smiling and laughter. (Not a criticism, just an observation.) I did love seeing how well the ballet dancers know their bodies, and what little things they find need to be changed to make a movement better looking and/or easier to do. I also enjoyed the clever ways of showing the ballet to us without giving away all of it, like showing the stage blurry in the background, knowing that this was something that was being done at the time in New York and they weren't going to give away the entire performance for free. Favourite small moment:
I love the costume lady being surprised at how much leg was being shown!
My only real criticism is that there were so many moments that could have been cut to make the story flow better, and not feel as slow. (Example:
Why are there so many shots of Justin just walking from place to place? Did we really need a full minute of him walking down the street coming from the train, or walking down the hall after the ballet?
) Overall, this was a very neat look into a ballet being created and I was happy to have seen it.
