I watched this again the other night for the first time in about 15 years. It still holds up pretty well.

Had always known of this movie, but never got around to watching it. I REALLY enjoyed it. It was a quality whoddunit thriller movie and the sexual vibe surely makes it stand out from the comparable films! Did this movie need a sequel? Not at all, but I am looking forward to getting around to watching it eventually.

Classic 90s American thriller. Quite intriguing, but the plot is overly complicated in some passage, making the viewing not so smooth overall.

Verhoeven is a savvy enough director to ensure that his films on the surface can be enjoyed in much the same way that others of the same genre are, and this erotic thriller is no different. But it’s not surprising that for a genre that revolves around violence and sex, Verhoeven would push the boundaries and satirise many elements to the extent that all other films of this genre live in its shadow. The nods to Hitchcock are everywhere, especially Vertigo, including a fantastic score by Jerry Goldsmith. But this is a film dominated by Sharon Stone and what a performance she gives. Thirty years later, the notorious scene where she bares all to the camera seems completely pointless - Stone commands every moment she is on screen anyway and her complete dominance over every male character in the film is striking. It remains a landmark character and removed from the furore of its release in the 90s, it is Stone’s whole performance that stands out and not the mere seconds of footage that pop culture seems to focus on.

An engaging thriller clearly inspired by Hitchcock in score and screenplay.

Starts with more nudity and stabbing than expected. Ended with far more questions than answers. Definitely written, produced and directed by men.

All I knew about this movie was the leg crossing scene and that is really all I am going to remember because this is just ok.

An erotic thriller full of intrigue, Basic Instinct is a controversial noir film from director Paul Verhoeven. The story follows a police detective that becomes obsessed with a novelist who’s suspected of murdering her lover in the same manner as described in her latest book. The casting is pretty strong, and includes Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. However, it’s Stone’s performance that makes the film, and she does an excellent job creating a captivating and mysterious character that’s always one step ahead of everyone. Still, the plot’s overly complex and weaves an intricate mystery that’s a bit too open ended. The gratuitous sex and violence is overdone, but Basic Instinct has compelling characters a mystery that’s irresistible.

After years without seeing it, I see it again, I still like it, the script and the direction are gimmicky, the interpretation of Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone make them go whole and raise the temperature of the film, is right what I read, to know who is the murderer, look at her tits
