Instead of watching Batman & Robin watch this film instead, Mr. Freeze here isn't the joke he is in that film. While I wouldn't say that the story is out of this world Freeze tended to be the subject of some of the very best episodes of the show so you can definitely expect this film to be as equally as enjoyable as those episodes.

For a direct to video film I actually think the animation is just as good as the previous film, the most noticeable thing here is the use of CG animation for scenes that show a submarine at the beginning and the Batwing. I really liked the fact that Batgirl wasn't a typical helpless Damsel In Distress but fell more into the Defiant Captive trope, in fact she willingly gave herself up in order to make sure Robin wasn't hurt. Like any heroine she is shown to actually attempt escaping and resist throughout the entire film. I especially enjoyed the awesome climax on the oil rig, incredibly intense with action all amped up thanks to the incredible score that accompanied it. The final tear jerker scene might make just about anyone want to cry.

While I can see why most reviewers say that this film is not on par with Mask of The Phantasm I actually like this film more. I think the reason most like this film less is most likely because there's quite a lack of Batman action. Most of the time the spotlight is on Barbara Gordon and Mr. Freeze. The only action scene that has a lot of Batman is the film's action climax on the oil rig. The fact that the biggest action scene isn't a fight scene might bother some fans too.

I wish it had been clearer where this movie takes place in the animated series because I have no idea.
