This was ridiculous and fun. If you can let go and just watch them throw every possible anime trope into a silly Batman cartoon movie, then give it a whirl. You'll have fun. If you're looking for a serious Batman cartoon why have you picked up one titled **BATMAN NINJA**?

Why so serious?

@nauip I didn't watch the trailers, but I was hoping for something more along the lines of Gotham by Gaslight. A serious reimagining of Batman in another time period and location. Like, what if Batman was trained as a ninja in ancient Japan? That could potentially be an awesome story, we didn't need all this ridiculous nonsense thrown in there.
_What am I going to do with you, Batman? You've destroyed a perfectly good giant robot castle._

I think the quote sums this thing up well enough. I like Japan in general, I love anime, I can appreciate the creators for who they are, I can even appreciate certain elements like the style and the animation. I'm also aware that cartoons often "displace" Batman, in time and/or in space. Having said all that... ooooooh boy, is this a mess. It feels like there were too many ideas and nobody was willing to let any of them go. If you're not bothered by so many staples of Japanese history / popular media all appearing in one movie, brought to you by some of your favourite DC characters (probably including more people from the Batman universe than any one movie should) - go ahead, you'll have a blast. If anachronistic mishmash in general disturbs you, you best stay away from this one.

@yellowheart your advice is perfect: if you don't like anachronistic stuff, stay away. But if it doesn't bother you too much, this is s blast.
As a long time anime lover, I just couldn't stop smiling while watching it!

[spolier] KAIJU + BATMAN == FUN
I feel extremely sorry for those of you who expected a classical Batman movie in Japan.

You got it all wrong.

This is JAPANESE ANIMATION - WITH -> BATMAN (and Ninja)

An entirely different concept.
Appreciate it for what it is and not for what you expected it to be, because you're 100% wrong.

It's a complete mess.

It's like the creators went thru an anime catalog.
I almost can imagine the planning meeting.
+ Hey look! there are ninjas in this one.
- Let's put it in the movie.

+ I found some giant robots!
- Those too.

+ Uhm a monkey sidekick ?
- Great!

+ What about a giant golden monkey made of other monkeys being controlled by a couple of monkeys playing the trumpet?
- Are you insane!? A trumpet? Let's make it a flute.
+ ( WTF? I guess he really likes monkeys )

+ I guess the more we put in it the more anime-ish it will be. Right?
- Right! Just don't forget to sign our checks.

This must be the most ridiculous Batman movie ever created, and I had so much fun watching it. The plot is a huge mess, full of silly anime clichès (they had to include mechas because JAPAN, right?) that don't make any sense whatsoever; but the animation is kinda nice, even if after some time it feels like you are watching a very long videogame cutscene.
It's really a missed opportunity and that's too bad, 'cause the designs and the concept behind the movie was actually very cool, and unfortunately I felt as if they wasted some good characters
(like, there are these three ninja guys that really stand out from the other basic ninjas of the "Batclan" or how is it called, but the movie never really use them and two of them don't even have any line of dialogue, so what was the point in making them?!)
.
So I really hope all of this was just a big advertisement for a soon to be Batman fighting game...

What a shitty movie, I've wasted my 1.5hrs. Our hero and his villains get transported to ancient Japan, and suddenly they all form giant robots like Power Rangers and Transformers.
I feel so disappointed, I thought after the whole foods of Justice League and overall failure of DCEU, I really really wanted Batman Ninja to succeed.
I hope one day DC gets it right and it succeeds like anything.

@chaitrajyadav It's not a Batman movie in Japan, genius. It's Japanese animation with Batman. Get it right next time.

@chaitrajyadav It's a Japanese animation written by Japanese people. The giant robots are heavily inspired by Japanese culture and anime. It's a different take on Batman, that draws a lot of inspiration from Japanese culture. So what do you mean when you say that you hope DC gets it right? The movie is so true to its Japanese influences so i can't see anything wrong with this take. I personally enjoyed this "different direction" because it's something Fresh in my opinion. So I'm sorry that you think that the movie is shitty. Maybe you're not the target audience for this movie.

Very enjoyable take on Batman, with some excellent animation design. Sure, it gets a bit bonkers towards the end, but it's not meant to be taken too seriously.

Pretty cool art and animation ruined by idiotic story and dialogue. So very, very stupid.
