There was a lot to like about _Beast_. Writer/director Michael Pearce handles his first feature-length film with care and ultimately releases a strong movie.

Yes, I would've loved to see the tiny isle of Jersey play a more central role in the film, as it's a fascinating microcosm and perfect remote setting for the mysterious disappearance of several teen girls. And the subplot of the discomfort women can be made to feel around the presence of men was under-explored. Not to mention, at a total of four, the film had one too many endings for my taste...but overall the film is a success.

The story (despite the plethora of endings) is tightly written and has got enough twists to make the ending difficult to predict. Even better, however, Jessie Buckley in the lead role of a dominated youth yearning to break free from her mother's binds with the help of a wild outsider (the beautiful Johnny Flynn) gives the film the teeth it needs to leave its mark on you.

Interesting film, which has a very common beginning with a story that is not original, but that as it progresses manages to stand out. Recommendable

I will watch ANYTHING starring Jessie Buckley. That's what brought me to this. Not bad, not great. But she's amazing as usual.

The two leads, Jessie Buckley and Johnny Flynn, both put in strong efforts in this film. However, Buckley is really becoming one of the finer actors of the moment, and she appears to have a long, storied career ahead of her, which will be much-deserved. As for this film, it keeps you guessing until the end, and given the solid writing, direction, and acting, it's an interesting watch.

This movie was great. I loved the mystery of many characters back story and a twist at the end. I love the portrayal of mental illness, and the feeling of knowing what it's like in someones head without having to spell it out for you. The actress, Jessie Buckley is absolutely amazing.

Sure, there's a serial killer in Jersey - there have been hundreds of them according to Bergerac - but there is more to the film than the overhanging mystery of who the killer is. Jersey itself is an oppressive beast for a young woman looking to break free from mundanity, and her family are equally as beastly, restraining her from being herself. This is a strong character drama with or without a murder to solve, engaging the viewer long before other beasts are revealed as the film reaches its denouement.

As you may know, I often discover films when I dip into the filmography of an actor that is new to me. In this case, it is that of the talented Irish actor, Jessie Buckley (and I will definitely be following her career). The writing of this film is subtle although the topic is brutal. I was often surprised where the writers took us, which involved a few false trail and pseudo-endings before the credits rolled. The casting was superb as was their performance. The tone of abandonment was chilling. The pacing is deliberate and pensive. It is totally worth finding this film. I give it a 7 (very good) out of 10. [Thrilling Crime Mystery]

Kept me guessing as the plot moved forward. At times it moved a bit slow for my preference but overall it was good.
