@dipperdolphin I like the movies more than the 1997 tv show, but my opinion is biased taking into account that I watched the show earlier and would probably not have understood a lot if not for that. It obviously doesn't do as good of a job of laying out some intricacies of some of the characters backstories, but that was to be expected when transporting a 12 hour long show into a (trilogy) movie format, on the upside the movies get rid of some nonsense and unimportant or unexplained actions (like Zodd handing his sword to Guts). I'm not sure how I feel about the omission of the plot to poison Griffith though. That being said, I disagree about the point that the show did not establish well enough the magnitude of the impact Guts' departure had on Griffith - either way it is never clear why exactly Guts has that impact on him. As for the manga, I can't speak to it because I did not read it.
