This is one of those movies. The diamond in a pile of coals. This is the reason you scour Netflix, and clearence bins. This is that new shirt that you found at the thrift store, that you actually like quite a bit. Low budget, freshly original, yet poking a ton of fun at the big budget, and the old classic horror, movies. And dont forget the twist. And then the other twist at the end. I seriously believe there will be a sequel to this movie, so I suggest, er recommend, watching this movie. Honestly, I didnt really like the actors very much, but thats not to say they did a bad job, just the only lovable character was the villian. This movie reminded me mostly of The Collector, but there was Scream, Friday the 13th, and many more scenes within, altogether, extremely interesting. So after you catch up on all of your watchlist, and you just cant seem to find something to watch, try this one, I am sure you'll be pleased.

Suprising, original and constantly entertaining, _Better Watch Out_ really is a fun breath of fresh air in a time when most movies feel predictable and telegraphed. It reminded me of two of my favorite horror comedies of the last years, _Krampus_ for the thematic and tonal similarities, and _The Visit_ for the reunion of stars Olivia DeJonge and Ed Oxenbould.

Damn!! I didn’t expect that and it went into it really fast and got darker and twisted the more in and ended up a decent film with a good ending to it.

This movie has several major twists, which helps it stand out as somewhat original. My problem with it though is, while it tries to have a Funny Games vibe, it doesn't earn the dread that it was looking for. It went too middle of the road between trying to be funny and wanting to be taken seriously that it missed both.

I really do appreciate the attempt, but with some different writing it could have been really great.

The timeline is jacked unless there are carolers out at 1 in the morning. There's no way a 12-year-old could have physically subdued 2 teenage jocks. And how she survives is impossible considering she couldn't move.
Was going to give this an 8/10 but that ending took it down to a 7. That final scene shown during the credits really doesn't help. Should have ended with the cops leaving and Luke standing in his window with a smile on his face. Fuck Ashley! Hehe! ;)
@srcapncdlvl99 true, happy ends suck. The bad guys should win more often.

An original idea and spot on acting yet with a few too many WTFs to make it completely enjoyable.

How unexpectedly fun, fresh, and fucked up. This was not only a refreshing break from the same formulaic home invasion films but stands on its own as a good movie. Best of all, it has an extremely satisfying ending unlike some others in the genre which resolve rather loosely. I definitely recommend watching this.

Don't read any spoilers, this is not one of those movies, it is a gem with some fantastic story that will surprise you sooo good. Amazing turnarounds, extremely entertaining and very original. The ending was superb.

Home Alone in reverse; this is a darker than expected movie, despite the festive soundtrack trying to convince you otherwise. Not very jolly, a little bit disturbing actually, but the twist on older genre tropes work in its favour.

Well that was unexpected. What begins as a standard home-invasion horror takes an interesting turn that you either go with or dismiss entirely. I fell into the former category largely on the strength of the performances, especially Levi Miller, whose role could easily have not worked at all. There is also a natural feel to the dialogue from the start that is also funny, but equally ensures the dramatic twist that the story takes doesn’t completely feel like it hasn’t been earned in some way. The film also does a great job of gradually escalating the tension and building to each plot development that forces the audience to constantly reevaluate where the film is ultimately going to go. Well worth a look.

Better Watch Out is a dark and twisted take on the classic John Hughes style holiday comedy. While Ashley is babysitting a home intruder breaks in and stalks her, but things soon take an unexpected twist and become more deadly and disturbing than she first thought. Olivia DeJonge and Levi Miller both give strong performances. Miller in particular makes for a really interesting villain; a psychotic Ferris Bueller who’s ten steps ahead of everyone and is able to roll with unexpected complications. The violence is surprisingly graphic, yet kind of has a satiric edge to it. Still, at times it does tend to get a little overly cruel and mean spirited. While it pushes the envelope a bit too far at times, Better Watch Out is devilishly entertaining with a wicked sense of humor.
