I expected a little more from this director. Eventually it turned out to be a who's right, who's wrong documentary. What was great is to see people from 1% like Bill Atkinson fight against other 1% companies.

The Latino community who suffered the most under this herbalife pyramid scheme was described very well on emotional level.
However I think John Oliver did a much greater piece on Herbalife, even though he quoted some footage from this documentary.

Is it a must see documentary, yes and no.
Yes, if you are curious, no if you are looking for indepth information on Herbalife.

Spoiler alert: Bill Atkinson was proven right by FTC. It took him 5+ years of fighting alone. Imagine how long it would have taken a mere mortals like us to achieve this.

I liked this documentary and I agree with Bill Ackman all the way but would of loved information on the product and how It's made etc I've been to one of the courses on Herbalife and I liked the healthily life style information each week and learned a few new things about healthy life style that i didn't already know but I wasn't convinced on buying the product that the seller doesn't know a 100% about what they're selling, how it's made, where it comes from and more focusing on the money and makes you think what you are sticking in your body and that's the same about any food based thing these days. The whole food industry is a big scam.

A documentary following Wall Street trader Bill Ackman, who bets $1bn against ‘Herbalife’ - a US fitness drinks company - on the premise that he believes it to be a pyramid scheme.

Although the film focuses on one company, this is one of the better deconstructions on how multi-level marketing as a whole really works; from the people at the top to the people getting screwed at the bottom.

You buy a load of product from someone, who makes commission off of it. The way you make money is not through selling the stock but rather through getting other people to sign up and sell it for you. In turn, they must recruit people ‘below’ them etc etc. It’s the classic pyramid scheme but it uses a product to legitimise it, even though the actual demand for the product is questionable.

There are enough diverse interviews and viewpoints to keep Betting on Zero interesting, yet Braun never lets the story stray too far from the central theme. Perhaps he’s preaching to the converted but hopefully the film manages to sway a few people who may be pondering get-rich-quick schemes.

This documentary does a brilliant job exploring the flaws in Pyramid schemes / MLM / Direct Selling, in particular the Herbalife company.
MLM companies like Amway, Avon, Herbalife and Isagenix present themselves as legitimate business opportunities. Maybe, but that depends on your definition. Of all three words.
Multi-level marketing is technically legal, but that doesn’t make it a good investment of your time or money. These companies lure people with big promises “Be your own boss! Work from home! Make passive income!” that almost never eventuate.
