This movie holds up. It's a stone cold classic. That said, there are two things that really jump out at me this time around:

First off, Axel had a short window of time off and chose that time to drive that junker of his across the country. That's a two day drive! Now there is an idea for a prequel. Axel's two day cross country road trip.

Secondly...maybe espresso and the idea of what "coffee beans" are was a new concept at the time but the whole "lets disguise drugs in the coffee" thing had to be explained THREE TIMES. This is what makes him a brilliant detective? Was coffee that new of a novelty in 1984 that audiences needed it spelled out so many times?

Anyway, still love this movie. Still perfect.

Still one of my favorite movies from the 80's. Suberb soundtrack, Eddie Murphy on top form. Director Martin Brest (Midnight Run, Scent of a Woman) delivers a great action comedy along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson as producers (Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide, Bad Boys and The Rock) my childhood was taken up with all these suberb action movies. Eddie gives a performance that is sadly missing from him nowadays (hopefully Beverly Hills Cop IV can bring back the spark). Sit back and hold on as this fast talking Detriot detecctive turns Beverly Hills upside down. Listen to that soundtrack... One of the best soundtracks of the 80's.

As a kid I used to love this movie! I remember laughing throughout the entire movie and watching it over and over again. Now I've rewatched it and must say times have changed. It a decent action/comedy, maybe even better than most recent Hollywood efforts, but it's nothing more than that. If anything; it's a great look into the 80's. The theme music is legendary, Eddie Murphy's fast trashtalk, laughing and movements are iconic, and the whole interaction and atmosphere breathes 80's. Unfortunately the 80's are more than 20 years ago and this movie feels just as oldfashioned as Madonna's (then) revolutionary videoclips from that same time.. The rebel behaviour is not so rebel anymore, the jokes are rather lame, times have changed..

I still enjoyed it, but wouldn't recommend this as a great action/comedy, but more as a great example of a general 80's movie, just like Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club.

Thanks to Eddie Murphy in top form, "Beverly Hills Cop" still works pretty well today. Sure, there are numerous clichés, and some of Axel Foley's jokes are outdated. But the movie is still fun. The only problem is the villain, who I didn't remember being so uncharismatic and boring. He fulfills his purpose, but nothing more. Thanks to Murphy, the movie is still worth seeing, though.

I understand it's an iconic theme song, but after an hour I'm really sick of it

_Beverly Hills Cop_ is a true classic of the action-comedy genre. Eddie Murphy delivers an iconic performance as the quick-witted and street-smart Axel Foley, who finds himself out of his element in the posh and luxurious Beverly Hills. The film has a great mix of action and humor that keeps you entertained. The supporting cast, including Judge Reinhold and John Ashton, also delivers memorable performances that add to the movie's charm.

It's a great movie, it's what you expect from Eddie the character itself I liked and the others are good....
But I feel that a little more story would be nice....
Jenny's kidnapping was not the typical one where they show how they torture her and so on, it's not bad but they could have gone that way, the drug scenes and the shooting were good but I would have appreciated more...

I realized I had never seen this movie from start to finish before, it is hard to judge in a world with so many cop films released since then, but amazing how these early Eddie Murphy films survive solely on his charisma alone. Solid watch with an iconic theme and plenty of dudes getting filled with lead by the end

An odd mix of action, comedy and tension, Beverly Hills Cop doesn't quite convey the legendary status it has accrued to a new viewer like myself, but it is still a fun, eclectic ride from start to finish. Fun but not fantastic.

Always fondly remember this. Great music and Murphy being hilarious. On re-watch (7 years after my last, thanks scrobbling!) it struck me that it's actually a pretty good story. I love how they display Foley's competence and investigative skills. Reminded me a lot of Sean Spencer from Psych!

Not sure about this one, it had some great and funny moments but there was some parts where I was failing to become immersed in the story. However, having to take into account the fact that this was made back in the 80's it was a good movie for its tike. I just didn't enjoy the first half of the movie much, however it got going in the second half and it was quite immersful then.

Eddie Murphy at his best and in one of his iconic roles. Years without seeing it and it has not lost its charm. Some say The quintessential action comedy of the 80s, those bad eighties, those bananas.

Fun and entertaining, Beverly Hills Cop is a classic ‘80s action-comedy. When his friend is murdered Detroit police detective Axel Foley heads off to Beverly Hills to find those responsible. It’s a pretty formulaic plot that’s full of the usual stereotypes, but the comedy stylings of Eddie Murphy go a long way towards elevating the material. And, his charm and charisma gives it a bit of personality too. Though it’s a typical cop film for the most part, Beverly Hills Cop delivers a lot of solid action and plenty of laughs.

I'm a little surprised how well this holds up. Some great side characters throughout.

Outside of the obvious problem with Axel being a bad cop, and screwing up any case the prosecutor might want to bring.

A rare achievement in how it successfully combines humor and action into one piece. My favorite Eddie Murphy movie.

Very nice and with good gags to spend a light evening. A very good Murphy I would never have expected.

One of those fun but totally unrealistic cop movies of the 80’s. That manages to work due to Eddie Murphy and a likable supporting cast.
