Big was charming and lots of fun. Even though it was primarily a comedy, it still had some very sweet and touching moments sprinkled throughout. Tom Hanks was brilliant acting like a twelve-year-old adult and one of the better roles I've seen him in. I loved the floor piano scene. The extended edition did seem to be a bit too long for my taste though.

It's hard these days to remember what a fantastic comic actor Hanks was, but this is a film that would not work without his performance, which completely sells the idea of a grown-up child. The idea itself would suggest a focus on comedy, but what also makes the film work is that it isn't focused on gags and laugh out loud moments - rather the film plays a fine balance exploring both the fun of the character getting his wish, but equally what has been lost. The film is rightly lauded as a wonderful reminder of the inner child in all of us, perfectly encapsulated in the classic piano scene, but its the focus on character moments, such as Josh's first night alone, that lend the film a poignancy that elevates it to more than simply a clever concept.

Big is such a fun, charming movie. It’s essentially what you get when you take all of the good stuff from Shazam and amplify them by a good few cranks. It’s such a feel-good movie that just puts a smile on your face whenever you watch it.

It’s a film that really makes you love Tom Hanks as an actor, where he shows off his aptitude to play in both a dramatic role and a light-hearted, (literally) childlike one.

And if there’s any scene that perfectly captures what I’m talking about, it’s the giant toy piano scene. Really, if you can’t/don’t want to watch this movie, please do yourself a favor and watch that scene on YouTube.

9.2/10

Brilliant comedic performance by Hanks, and just a wonderful feel-good atmosphere throughout the entire film. The kind you’d watch to cheer yourself up after a bad day - charming and wholesome, with a few giggles along the way.

The film has aged badly, today it would rather have uphill with such controversial moments in the script.

A movie only able to be the great staple it is because of Tom Hanks himself. A movie that brings genuine joy and fun. A good carefree movie to watch on a do-nothing-day.

This movie aged like milk. It started so cute and funny and wholsesome and very quickly devolved into something I can only describe as "icky." I wish the movie had exclusively focused on the fun concept of a kid becoming an adult and running a toy company and didnt try to force the romance between a 12/13 year old kid and a woman in her 30s. The fact that they had sex and then when she found out he was a kid she told him to keep her number and find her in 10 years brings the "ick" factor all the way up to 11. The acting was great, the piano scene was amazing, and the general concept was interesting as hell, but I probably won't be watching again.

After yesterday's Straw Dogs I needed something lighter. Something just plain fun and I knew I couldn't go wrong with Penny Marshall's Big. I think I've seen this one before when I was younger because I clearly remembered the Zoltar machine and the scene with the giant piano but other then that, my mind was blank.

Anyway Tom Hanks really shines here as a kid in a "big" body. I just love his scenes with Elizabeth Perkins, they are so heartwarming. So sad to see her being left alone at the end as Josh (Tom Hanks) returns to being a kid. But the rest of the movie you are smiling how Josh discovers the grown up world and starts working at a toy-company.

Big is just one fun 100 minutes to spend. Carefree like intended.

First time seeing it and I thought it was a decent movie. Not sure if this is one of the original plots for kid gets big and becomes executive at a toy store but it’s a good take. My problem is with the ending. It did not feel like the ending was realistic like not even movie realistic. He turned back into into a kid and the mom just accepted he returned and the police just ended their search? What about the new police report for adult Josh?

Big would go on to get critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike and would even get recognition from the academy awards and the golden globes as it’s been nominated in several categories, mainly for Tom Hank’s performance. This is a must-watch for anybody whose a fan of comedy or Tom Hanks as an actor. Its well-crafted storyline and lovable characters make this movie a classic that may not hold up in some aspects but sure holds up in others.
