In a strange way, I honestly regret that I didn't (_couldn't_ because of a strong religious upbringing) watch this back in the late '70s when all my high school friends were raving about it. From everything they described, it must have been quite film back at that time. I tried watching it very recently however, and just couldn't get through it; by today's standards, _Billy Jack_ of 1971 was far too dull, too plodding, the "fight" scenes almost laughable, the musical score completely atrocious, the "songs" that were interspersed throughout just too mindnumbingly stupid, the acting far, FAR below anything anyone would sit through today...I guess maybe this had some sort of relevance (?) back during the hippie/free love/if it feels good, do it generation but none of that held any interest to me whatsoever. I was extremely put off by the violence done to the "wild horses" in the opening scenes (this was before the days of _"The SPCA monitored the filming of this movie. No animals were harmed."_) so the movie was off to a bad start for me right from the beginning...and I'm no bleeding-heart tree-hugging liberal. Before the film was even half over, I was rooting for everyone to kill everyone so there couldn't be a sequel. How in the wide wide world of sports they managed to pull this putrefaction off - AND make two sequels - is beyond my comprehension. I guess _Billy Jack_ was really something back in those days but this isn't worth watching...not even for the sake of nostalgia. If, like me, you didn't get to see it back in the 70s when it was probably quite memorable, then save yourself the pain of trying to make up for it like I did. I've suffered enough for us all.
