Here we are then. The last Argento…. so far, and one I actually hadn’t seen before. Colour me surprised, though. It didn’t outright suck. Not exactly a masterpiece, but not bad… Not bad at all. Even though it’s a bit “tuned down”, we get some of the visual flair that made Mr. Argento famous. Very nice use of light and shadows, with the saturation of many scenes turned down, which I liked very much. The kills are also very visual, and almost turns to outright gore, but still manages to look great.

The story is short and tight, and has a lot of elements from Argento’s earlier work. Apparently this was a script Argento wanted to do back in the early 00s, but had to shelf because of troubles with funding. I’m glad he got to do it now, as unfinished business is not fun. Especially when you are getting as old as Argento is. Anyway… The only thing that really bothers me with this story, is the ending. It’s very abrupt, and isn’t really what this story deserves.

The acting is decent enough, and I actually really like Asia Argento’s performance. Like the rest of the film, she delivers a tuned down and real character for once. Refreshing!! Ilenia Pastorelli is decent as our protagonist, but leans a bit too much towards overacting in some sequences. Doesn’t really hurt the film in any way, but still…

I ended up really liking the music. A good electronic score that really manages to get the pulse going in the “exciting” sequences. Really helps the tension building.

I’m was quite surprised by Dark Glasses, and now I regret not watching it sooner. As I said above… This is no masterpiece, but it’s solid enough for me to be excited after watching it. It might not be fair to compare everything to the fantastic run Argento had from 1970 to 85, but it’s really hard not to. Especially when you are watching them back to back, as I have been doing the last month (and some). At least this little “project” of mine ends on a good note…

Please, save your time and don't watch this film, especially if you like Dario Argento. This is by far his worst movie.
I'm not even sure if I can tell you all the flaws it has. Maybe I'll just stick to the plot, which felt stupid, boring, uninspired, USELESS.
Like, the only reason the killer kills prostitutes is because
he works with dogs and he stinks too much, so they always ask him to take a shower first. And apparantly this triggers him, I dunno...
. And that's it, there is nothing else to it.
I am so perplexed by this film... I wonder how they managed to get it out to the cinema or to present it to festivals. I mean, in the cast there is even the daughter of Dario Argento... Is it possible that she could not open his father's eyes on how bad this movie was turning out to be?
I mean, imagine being a journalist and watching this movie for the first time at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival. Just imagine the embarassing silence there was in the room for the acting, the dialogue, the LOGIC behind the main characters and the killer, the SNAKES; a movie from a director that made so many cult films and was missing from the scene for years! It must have been almost painful to watch!
Like, it's not even funny. It's just boring and bad and useless to watch. The ending is especially ugly, just ugly, a bit pathetic too and I have no idea what Dario Argento wanted to tell me.
