Very common subject: struggling artist, no inspiration, mix in some (lots of) alcohol and drugs and sex and blood and here comes the masterpiece. The story is definitely not original, the character's life and her binge drinking/snorting partys are quite boring. But the lights and colours work is worth the watch. It's very artistically done at least.

Then come the twist:
she's becoming a vampire
. But for me that made the whole thing even less original and interesting than the beginning of the story. I mean, the whole
creature of the night
here is so cliche. Just an excuse to have some naked/bloody painting scene. Been there, seen that 100 times in one form or another. Gore scenes are ok I guess.

Ending's not really original either
she'd rather die producing a masterpiece than not create anything, well it's done. Too bad 5+ other people had to die too for that.
main actress Dora Madison played the sh*t outta this role.
opening warning about seizures are necessary - even without preexisting conditions, you may fall out watching this film. Dizzying, strobe lights, loud goth... lots of gore. LOTS of blood. LOTS OF DRUG USE. and sex, wheee!
a family friendly film indeed!

Just watched Bliss (2019) directed by Joe Begos, one of the most unique films in the vampire genre that I have ever seen. From the dizzying camera shots and edits, to the acid trip fueled gritty atmosphere accented by blood and gore. It equals to a masterfully crafted demented drug induced cinematic experience you should definitely sink your teeth into.
I thought it was a great flick. The art style and just overall craziness were really good. My only issue with the movie is the vampire-like thing that sprung up at the end there. At first I thought it was just going to be a bloodlust kind of thing from the drugs but then the fact that the only way to kill people she bit was destroying the heart really made it feel like vampires. Maybe she was just crazy from all the drugs and it was all a huge hallucination but she did literally explode from the sunlight. Maybe I missed some vampire clues throughout the movie (although it does explain why she never saw her friend during the day) but it sort of felt like a cop out ending to an otherwise great movie.
A dizzyingly frantic trip. Great music throughout, great gore, and great lead actress.

So a really peculiar movie, it tells about the uneasiness of a painter under the effect of a heavy drug, it also tells about the "friends" she has near her and that damn painting to be completed, the choice of colors is visually extraordinary it's a continuous play of warm and dull colors with particular camera angles, the technical side is mind-blowing, the story however is slow and agonizing a movie that lasts 1 hour and 20 that seems to last 3, very heavy (although I liked the movie)
Obviously being a horror film the blood and gore is not lacking, a really raw and difficult film to watch, an excellent film

From painter to vampire through a journey of ecstasy. It's a very outdated movie.

Unfocused and cliched. The onscreen warning before the film starts about seizures is certainly appropriate.

If you have seen any of Joe Bego's two previous movies you know that there is gore to be expected and here it's even committed to 16mm. Dropping the retro aesthetics this time around we are subjected to an ever increasing fever-dream of a struggling artist abusing various substances until there is no stopping the red gush anymore. It's certainly edgy in it's portrayal but I couldn't help but smile at this. My major gripe with this is probably bit unfair but I wish it could have been a bit more unique as this has strong Mandy vibes in both visual and musical style
at least it didn't turn out that she was possessed to paint this as that would have been even more of an old bag
.
