I watched this under the title _Andy Warhol's Young Dracula_. So, the movie is very '70s, but shares similarities with Hammer horror movies, but takes the nudity to an almost softcore-porn level - not a complaint, by the way.
The acting is all over the place, from subtle, to bad, to over the top; though it all just fits. I have to say, with all the actors who have played Count Dracula over the years, Udo puts a fresh spin on it. Whereas several actors are just doing a Lugosi impression, Kier is just being himself, only as a mopey vampire.
There is a lot to enjoy here, and I wanted to like this more, but the pacing was slow, and story was clunky as hell. The idea of Dracula needing virgin blood and having a rough go of it, because these girls were sluts, was funny.
Worst of all was having Mario Balato (was that his name? I never heard anyone say it.) become the "hero" at the end. Nope, undeserved. The dude was a total scumbag. Also, he was in Italy, why does he have an East Coast accent? Boo! Boo this man!
Anyway, the film is totally midnight-movie material. I have no doubt it has a small cult following. I liked most of it, but the ending just didn't sit will with me.
I'd call this more of a campy drama, rather than horror or comedy. Less for fans of the vampire genre, and more the weird art types who dig _Pink Flamingos_, and _Eraserhead_.
