This was intense. Mostly funny, very funny. A bit trash, rarely politically correct, and hilarious. And then later on some scenes that totally cut with the tone of the rest of the movie, as intensely hard and sad as the rest is intensely funny.

We start by a small time dance contest jury deliberations followed by a minister council on budget cuts. Both are actually quite similar, hitting hard on societal issues and politicians. They hit hard, and true. These are incredible non-stop laughing scenes.

Blanche Gardin as a gynaecologist giving a young girl an exam and advice on her first sex is even more hilarious. I can't even imagine how they could go through this scene with a straight face.

Less stupidly hilarious but Denis Podalydès is really a killer in every scene. The very psychopathic bad guy is a joy to watch too.

There is an incredibly well handled contrast between
the minister's rape scene
which is, despite what's happening, on the lighter side and still funny, and the
girl's
which is on the contrary almost painful to watch (well actually hear as it is tastefully not shown). This part is so different from the tone of the rest of the movie that the comparison makes it that much harder. Leading to the revenge part, where
she escapes then comes back to literally make him eat his balls
, feeling so satisfying despite the awfulness of what's being done.

Likewise, the
parents' suicide, and the son discovering them
is both cute and funny but equally touching and sad, again so in contrast that you feel the darkness of it even more.

And in return, both of these scenes make the following jokes comforting and so, even more efficient. The handling of this balance is a great success.

Strangely there's quite a difference between the lawyer's affirmation near the end that there is no justice and the actual tone of the movie that seems to delight in showing karmic retribution for every bad guy (including in the unrelated final scene).
