High school movies are a lot of fun and this is no exception. Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein have amazing chemistry and are a joy to watch together. The situations they get into are funny and feel like they could happen. There are some cool side characters too that really bring out the themes of the movie. I think a lot of high schoolers are going to relate to this.

Decent. But nothing more. There were some very funny moments - and the two leads Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein are more than fine. But at the end of the day it was a movie that just wanted to be 'Dazed & Confused', 'Superbad', 'Edge of seventeen' and 'American Graffiti' too much. And didn't really succeed in any aspect of those movies.

Some audiences will no doubt relate to the characters - realising they should have partied more etc. But there are way too many slightly cringeworthy moments that spoil any depth.

I saw this last night and laughed constantly. This is well shot, smart, heartfelt and very 2019 (which can be a bad thing but isn’t here) film. The two leads are fantastic. I love the representation (lgbtqia characters that aren’t used as a trope) and some of the camerawork very not seen a comedy like this. I can see all the connection to Superbad. Superbad is a full played where the leads are “the losers”. Booksmart plays everyone as mostly equal. I see this as a good companion piece with that film. They would play awesome together as a double feature or a drive-in tandem. I hope it hits big but with all that is out this weekend, I can see it getting lost. But this full is just that good and as of right now, this is my favorite of 2019.

This continues the list of inane movies that are much too prevalent now

Wow Olivia Wilde knows what being young is like, the pool scene is a literally journey of a teenager/ young adult through society, beautiful soft sleek ride into a harsh reality.

I'm not going to read any reviews anywhere about this movie because _Booksmart_ is my new best friend and I won't hear anyone talk trash about my best friend.

I've decided to make it my best friend because it's funny and smart and cute and charming and makes me laugh and I feel like I can be myself around it.

Watching _Booksmart_ in my flat (sadly, in France, it didn't have a theatrical release but went straight to Netflix), of course I laughed a lot and even shed a tear or two, but I also surprised myself by cringing out load and fucking applauding and cheering at the screen. _Booksmart_ connected with me on a visceral level and made me feel alive in ways that only a best friend can. So, sorry to all my other friends, but from now on, _Booksmart_ is my #1.

Oh, and please can everyone stop making movies for awhile so that we can concentrate on dedicating all filmmaking resources to Olivia Wilde so that she can continue making movies as quickly as possible until she collapses from exhaustion? Thank you.

Yea, it was okay. But one of the best films of the year? Personally, I don't think so. Of course, high schoolers and graduates might disagree with me, as I'm not exactly at the age to be part of the film's target audience.

“Two half-cheese, half-sausage pizza are just one cheese and one sausage pizza you f’ing morons.”

Didn’t expect much when I watched this. Turned out to be great. Not like most of the garbage high school films out there.

Olivia Wilde, in her directorial debut, does a good job of replicating teenaged angst for the "woke" generation. But, IMO tries a little too hard to be quirky, while pushing her "we're all in the same clique" message. All the high school stereotypes are here, but, we're also supposed to believe they are all BRILLIANT and major college bound, or getting 6 figure jobs out of high school. Some funny moments, for sure, as well as some heartwarming ones, but, nothing too deep or thought provoking in the end. All that was missing was the "be excellent to each other, and....Party on dudes!" coda.

Female-led Superbad with a contemporary feminist twist. Some solid humorous scenes and great onscreen chemistry between the two leads, but felt somewhat of a retread of those that came before it. Superbad, Edge of Seventeen and maybe some shades of Ladybird can all be found here, so if those names sing to you, give this one a shot.
