I mean this with the greatest of respect, but I feel like this is made for the generation of people currently on Twitter replying to all cinema posts with "sksksksk fr fr yasssssss we WILL be seated". It's an interesting twist on the high school, raunchy comedy with a gay twist, but nothing really comedically landed for me throughout the majority of this. I really did enjoy the soundtrack and aesthetic of the movie though, and the outtake sizzle reel at the end was great. Just alright, not to the heights that the internet would have you believe, but still decent enough.

This uses a lot of overexposed tropes from coming-of-age films and sex comedies, but its unapologetically campy dna gives it a fresh twist. I don’t mean that lightly: the characters are more heightened than your average Wes Anderson type and the dialogue is specifically written to maximize the amount of sass and queerness. If you thought _Barbie_ was annoying, I don’t recommend watching this. I generally found it to be decently funny, entertaining and energetic in the moment but without leaving a deeper impression. In terms of story it checks every box, its creativity lies more in coming up with fun scenes than it does with unique character arcs. Visually it’s slightly above average for a comedy, however due to it being heavy on close-ups and centre framing, it still has that disposability factor to it that’s often found in direct to streaming films. The music also gets too excessive and annoying at points. All in all, it’s a decent film that I can see (hopefully) contributing to the resurgence of low/mid budget comedies in the mainstream.

6/10

This was fine, but I don't find this type of humour to be funny.

I'm done trying to sow my damn oats. I'm packing up my vagina and I'm fucking Mathieu. That's the only hope for me. It's me and Mathieu, man. And cuz he's gay and fearless, he's probably gonna fuck me without protection. And I'm gonna get pregnant, we're gonna have to join a church, he'll be the gay pastor, my whole life's FUCKED!
And yeah, sure, his sermons are good. But everybody knows he's fruity. EVERYBODY knows he's FUCKING fruity. By the way? Our son, Hezekiah, HATES us cuz he knows we're both closeted, but we try to make it work for him, but he's not happy, and yeah - guess what - the deacon's FUCKING the evangelist, man. He's FUCKING the evangelist... :sob: I don't wanna live like that. Will you come and visit us on Sundays... Please, will you come and visit us on Sundays... :sob:

This entire monologue was improvised.

Heathers meets But I’m A Cheerleader for Gen Z - in the best way you can possibly imagine. Sexually charged, queer, violent, and absolutely hysterical, this is a new camp comedy that I HIGHLY recommend.

Even the serious moments were kind of goofy. I went in expecting Book Smart / Good Boys / Eighth Grade but I got like... lesbian American Pie? It was not what I expected.

"Bottoms" is a satirical sex comedy in the style of "American Pie", which is obviously aimed at a new generation. Those who are already put off by this description should give the movie a wide berth. Personally, however, I was thoroughly entertained. Even if not every joke hits the mark, the film as a whole is hilarious. Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri carry the film effortlessly as the leads, but the rest of the cast, especially NFL legend Marshawn Lynch, also deliver. The story, meanwhile, doesn't offer much in the way of surprises but can at least score points at the end for its sheer absurdity. Whether "Bottoms" has the longevity of "American Pie" remains to be seen. But I will certainly watch this film many more times.

This movie is a lot of fun and leans into the silly/absurd which it seems a lot of modern comedies are afraid to do. Lesbians rise up

It leans into the absurd side of comedy but doesn't have the nuance to pull it off. Main character is unlikeable as hell and the dialogue is just a plethora of curse words strung together. I can almost feel what they thought they were doing with this film but it really didn't work.

As a queer woman who relishes more mainstream queer films I was very disappointed. Just made me want to watch Booksmart again and be reminded of good writing and cast chemistry.
The sizzle reel at the end was the funniest part.

Very meh. Almost bad but the final act was great. I'm probably not the key demographic but didn't find it very good. but I don't think those involved should stop trying and I wonder with a bigger budget for better talent (mostly in behind camera roles) whether this could've been better. Cruz and Fowler shined.

A super satire amazing bomb of a movie. I haven’t seen a movie that was so unapologeticically itself. It was exactly what it promised and pretended to be. Great writing details and acting. Truly funny. A star

Very fun and CAMP. THE teen movie of 2020s (and tbf post Mean Girls), dare I say.

Like going to hell, the coolest part of this is is the direction.

This kind of another teen movie works better than most because of it's attitude, cast and subversive humor, but what really makes it shine is director Emma Seligman. Her Quittin' Tarantina vibe carries the film easily with a solid backbone and a couple of moments bordering on brilliant.

This is one Fight Club you're gonna wanna talk about.

Great acting and directing but the writing is lacking sadly. Target audience who is here just for the fact that it’s gay and weird will enjoy it, that’s not for nothing. But the story didn’t make sense and wasn’t funny enough (to me) to outweigh that
