Boy is packed full of Taika Waititi's signature charm and melancholic humour, finding it's depth in what's not said, rather than what is said. Not only was James Rolleston stunningly natural in the titular role, but Waititi himself playing his father was also unforgettable.

Taika Waititi is a brilliantly talented director. Content for a story to play out in the viewers head rather than spoon feeding them schmultz, his visual styling as iconic as Wes Anderson or Tim Burton.

This is so weird in a good way. I'm not sure if Taika Waititi is a better director or actor.

Another gem from Waititi. This film has charm, wit, and imagination in spades. The final credits were especially joyous!

A real throwback to 90s fare like Matilda- films about childhood with a sort of whimsical bluntness. It’s a really charming and affecting coming of age story, and Boy’s idolization of his father falling away and having to be his own man is very well done. Waititi both writes and plays a man who isn’t some sort of demon, but is just a terrible father and a man charming and affable on his front but with issues he refuses to address exploding onto others. He’s trying, but not enough to actually go beyond apologies or start to change. The film goes by so smoothly, and is welcome for every minute of its runtime.

It's hard to watch this fool of a father, at the same time staying calm inside. I was moved by how vulnerability and heartfulnes is maintained right to the end in these difficult situations and emotions.
But the accident with the goat wasn‘t necessary ...

For a young filmmaker this is a fine movie. You really get a glimpse of the kind of movies that Waititi might make in the future. It is a bit rough around the edges but that seems to only add to its charm.

I really enjoy the acting from Alamein/Takita Waititi. He has such a range. It was fabulous.

I just caught this randomly on Amazon Prime. I'm familiar with Taika's recent work, but had missed this one. It's a gem!! I loved this movie. Funny, sweet and an all-around good time.
