Bright was a movie i looked forward to because it had an interesting concept, but unfortunately the concept failed to shine through due to a pretty awful script and a lot of awkward cinematography. Most of the dialogue was so bland and cringey, it felt like it was written by someone who has little to no experience in writing dialogue. And the cinematography was all over the place with pointless slow mo shots, quick zooms and boring wide shots.

The fantasy elements also felt half-assed and rushed. They could've done a lot more to make the viewer believe that this was a world where magical creatures evolved alongside humans. Something as simple as giving the police magical weapons of their own or having shops and businesses that pander to certain species could've been cool, but all we get are the Orcs being anti-social thugs and all Elves being rich while everything else is the exact same as real life. Other species are mentioned but never shown.

There was even a ridiculous shot in the film where out of nowhere the silhouette of a dragon is seen flying across the sky in the distance, a perfect representation of how distant this movie was from reaching its true potential.

The main Orc (played by Joel Edgerton) was a very good character though and his story arc was satisfying. Will Smith was good at....being Will Smith, but his character had no development and felt very one dimensional and depressing. At multiple times in the movie he was ready to commit suicide for no reason despite having a wife and kids, and in the end he still doesn't accept Joel Edgerton's character as a friend and basically remains a racist towards Orcs.

Bright is a very forgettable movie but i hope it's concept is picked up by a better director in the future and made into a better film or television series.

@adecool This almost perfectly describes my opinion about this movie. (Other races like centaurs, fairies and something with eyelids in the other direction were briefly shown, though.)
