So after reading the 13 comments so far (after watching) I think the homophobic tendencies all come out indirectly in people who gave it 6 or less. The one character is intense and the other chill. Sweet Home Alabama Reese Witherspoon's character was intense. When Harry Met Sally, Sally (Meg Ryan), intense. The Proposal, Sandra Bullock's character, intense. This is the most common theme in romcoms, so the only reason to bitch about one of the two characters intensity is stifling male heterosexual stereotypes. They seem to always be the one bitching about how "intense" the woman is or bragging about it.

And I think this movie will connect with strong women, heterosexual or LGBTQ. The confidence "speech" the "intense" character gives fit me like a cocoon. As a strong, successful, financially stable and accomplished in a male dominanted field, the whole thing, especially the parents part (my parents passed early before they could see all my accomplishments) just brought tears to my eyes. It felt like that character in that moment could be anyone who's ever been told over and over by the straight white male community "you can't do that because" you're a woman, you're not this or that, no one wants a (fill in whatever you are that doesn't make you straight, white and male)... Just so on point. He plays exactly how I might have spoken the main parts of that speech, tone, inflection, and why. Of course, I watched an interview with him on CBS Sunday Morning. He's lived it. So have I.

"Confidence is just a choice you make." and "you just keep your head down hoping everything they say... isn't true." If that speech doesn't strike you, you've never known what it's like to struggle with the constant bombardment of other people's perceptions and hopes and insistence you fail. Let alone the daily task of trying to recover over and over and over.

Admittedly it was strange watching two men but that's because Hollywood just refused to do it before because they didn't see it as a money maker. But you know what? Love is love and trying to force people to keep insecure white heterosexual men happy with their fragile egos has gotten old. This movie sets a lot of people free. BRAVO. BRAVO. BRAVO.

FULL SPOILER-FREE REVIEW @ https://www.msbreviews.com/movie-reviews/bros-spoiler-free-review-lff-2022

"Bros is a genuine, authentic, insanely hilarious breath of fresh air. Clever satirical comedy rips out loud back-to-back laughs throughout the entire runtime without ever causing viewers to lose their ear-to-ear smile.

Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane share more chemistry than hundreds of leads in as many rom-coms. It doesn't shy away from the familiar formulas and cliches of the genre, but it contains a compelling romance and a truly interesting story, paying homage to the LGTBQ+ community along the way.

One of the best films of the year!"

Like a campfire in the rain, there was a lot of wood but no spark.

Some are saying that Bros' performance anxiety in the boxoffice means that America isn't ready for a gay rom-com. I'm not so sure, I think maybe America just isn't ready for *this* gay rom-com.

As someone who didn't see this at TIFF (all the rave reviews on Letterboxd are from people who attended the premiere there), I enjoyed much of this film's 'com' but felt the 'rom' didn't deliver.

The characters' motivations felt vague (Aaron is ambivalent about Bobby until they wrestle on a picnic blanket and then suddenly he's in love deeper than the ass of the Mariana trench), story lines were ignored (Bobby starts off the movie as a famous podcaster [1 million subscribers!] and then never podcasts or even mentions it again), but the movie was going for a Nora Ephron remakes Stranger by the Lake vibe and falls short on the Nora Ephron part.

This is not to say I didn't like the film! The Twitter style one-liners were hilarious, Billy Eichner put in an amazing performance and I discovered the amazing Eve Lindley who played Tamara (as in, Tamara, Tamara I love you Tamara!).

I also got emotional over the subplot of crediting those who lived and died making the world a more accepting place for the LGBTQ+ population. It's nice to see their courage, dedication and determination are still being celebrated today.

All in all, Bros is a decent enough Tinder hook up but doesn't have the staying power for anything deeper.

As it started it was weak to me but I continued watching! I ended up LOVING the movie! I didn’t laugh at every joke but the entire movie was entertaining as you get to the second act it pulls you in! I saw every kind of gay character. I also think it’s an eye-opener for people who have commitment issues or internalized homophobia. It hits a lot of issues in a down to earth to earth this is just another way to look at love kind of way

The one thing I HATED about this movie is the fact that my clients (fitness) when to see this and the theater was empty! Just him and his husband, we know what that’s about! I deliberately waited to see this movie. I waited for a busy night at a theater that’s always on the weekend! It was lit but not the “bros” theater!!

I’m thinking to myself, we finally have a gay male movie that’s showed there is an entire loving side of gay people! That we are more than just sex-crazed people and the support is awful! Even if you didn’t like it why not support it so we can have more films with gay male leads?

In the same sense, I blame myself for believing people would support this gay movie when they can’t even say no to a piece of chicken (Chick-fil-A)

I hardly ever go to the theater now but honestly wouldn't have expected it to be full. Too many whiny, insecure straight white men in this country acting like anything that isn't about them is cause to make a scene. I think even the people who would've been curious that might like the movie, would've thought wait until they can watch it privately at home.

I'll be honest, I'm not Gay and I did not watch this movie. But, it's not because I'm straight that I didn't watch it, it's not because Rom-Coms aren't something that appeals to be to start with and Gay Rom-Coms appeal even less to me than straight Rom-Coms.

No, I didn't watch this because I didn't want another lecture and i didn't want to support another lecture.

And to the utter surprise of absolutely no one, we got the inevitable lecture, we were told once again how absolutely evil all straight white males are because they are straight white and male, rather than being another race, female, or Gay.

Pro-Tip Hollywood, if you want to make movies that people pay to see, don't make movies that people are going to take one look at and think: "This is going to scream at me about how evil I am nonstop," and then scream at them nonstop for not watching it.

Right now, anything "Gay" should be a no fly zone, not because straight people and white people are evil... but because it comes with the guarantee that it's going to insult the audiance and then the creators are going to insult the audiance.
