Streamed via Hulu

Catching up before it's leaving Hulu. I'm sorry but that was garbage. Couldn't think of any positive things about this film other than its score. This is probably the worst animal attack horror I've ever seen. Cheesy, silly, dumb but not in an entertaining way, unpleasantly dull, so fucking slow with disappointing payoff and the pacing is really weird. I was mostly annoyed by the characters. They're so fucking dumb and terribly incompetent, it's not even remotely funny.

The distance from Act 1 to Act 3 was long and dull. Great 1st act, IMO, followed by long descent of a mad scientist, until it becomes silly but thankfully ends.

A crazy little movie about an earthquake that releases cockroaches from Hell. The little buggers can start fires and set about terrorizing a small desert town. "Bug" starts out strong and has some shocking early moments. Then it settles into a made-for-TV movie vibe that it barely recovers from. Thankfully, it's helmed by one of my favorite television directors, Jeannot Szwarc. He keeps the visuals interesting enough to relieve viewers from some of the story's shortcomings.

At first it seemed like the bugs were going to bring about the apocalypse, but the story's focus actually narrows to become a cautionary tale of one man's out of control curiosity. I enjoyed the movie's last act as Dr. Parmiter (Bradford Dillman) turns into a regular Dr. Frankenstein.

This whole adventure proves once again that it's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
