Forbach, East of France, today. Mario, a man without much ambition, except where love is concerned, is back to square one after his wife left home. He now must raise his two adolescent daughters by himself, while going through some sort of a teenage crisis of his own. 14-year-old Frida blames her father for their mother's leaving and she develops ambivalent feelings towards her new girlfriend. 17-year-old Niki will soon leave home. Until then, she lives the good life. Mario can't help but lose the women he loves. Yet they must all agree to let one another go.

[Fire!LGTBI+] It's interesting how the director builds an entire female universe through a male protagonist. The abandoned husband, the bewildered father, is constructed by Belgian actor Bouli Lanners with tenderness. A disoriented man ("I am not good at women") who only finds a certain freeing out of reality, on stage. And although the vision of the useless male figure is still topical, the portrait is sensitive.

This film is like a virgin having sex for the first time: it touched me, but I'm not sure if it touched me in the way it meant to. The story of a loser who's distraught after his wife leaves him with his teen daughters made me more angry than anything else, so if I was supposed to pity the bloke, the film came up way short. The man simply continues to make bad decision after bad decision and get more and more depressed with each bad decision to the point I wanted to to shake him until he came round or died of a swollen brain haemorrhage. Still, I appreciated the classical music a lot for someone who doesn't appreciate classical music and, like that carnal bout with a virgin, after it was over I felt satisfied with the end result and even caught myself glowing a bit.
