There is no point in turning a story that already had racial components into a silly representation of BLM. Candyman killed to avoid being forgotten, but now kills for racial revenge, which simplifies the depth of the proposal. Nia Dacosta's forceful directing and Robert Aiki's extraordinary electroacoustic soundtrack elevate the quality of a film that sacrifices the horror in favor of a simplistic racial view.

One of the worst films I've ever watched. Like most things peel is involved in, he takes what is good, slaps on the 'white people bad' theme and calls it a day. The story is weak and full of the same propaganda that's kept the black community down: convincing them that they need to blame others for all their problems. Whites are bad. Cops are bad. Everything is racist. It's boring. Besides from story, the acting is laughable. Seriously, you get better acting in 70s blackploitation films.

This movie is horse shit! I blame jordan Peele. What, he makes one decent movie.... And now we are subjected to all the shit he has any affiliation with. Sad sad world.

How dare a movie have substance, themes and social commentary? It’s not like that hasn’t been done before, or since the inception of art for that matter. Some of the responses and ‘critiques’ I’ve seen to this are completely laughable, and it just goes to show how poorly thought out (and in some cases moronic) most people’s opinions are. If you’re well informed, and pay attention to what the movie’s saying, you’ll probably like it on an intellectual level at the very least. It’s also extremely well shot and well acted for the most part. But it takes a while to get going, and it takes too long to get truly scary. Some of the storytelling can be a bit muddled and clunky, but it’s definitely worth seeing. 7/10

I'm a huge fan of Tony Todd as Candyman and always have been, this was a good story and the actors play their parts very well. However afterward it was kind of ruined for me when they all started talking about it being about racism.
