In order to protect the reputation of the American space program, a team of NASA administrators turn the first Mars mission into a phony Mars landing. Under threat of harm to their families the astronauts play their part in the deception on a staged set in a deserted military base. But once the real ship returns to Earth and burns up on re-entry, the astronauts become liabilities. Now, with the help of a crusading reporter, they must battle a sinister conspiracy that will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden.

Really like this movie, have seen it a couple of times now. It´s good entertainment and I bet the conspiracy theorists were having a field day with this one. On a side note: I wonder why most of the older movies on trakt have such low average ratings. They shouldn´t be compared to modern movies if that´s the case. Instead they should be view in the context of the time they we´re made.

I'd love to see a modern take on this. This go film has a couple of glaring plotholes that I can't get over.
1) when the astronauts were first taken away from the rocket with all eyes on the launch site you'd think someone would notice the astronauts leaving the facility. 2) When the astronauts are in the plane how come they do not try to use the radio to contact the outside world?
other than that I do think it's wonderfully shot and the acting is superb...

I like the idea and conspiracy (half truths) but the actual movie wasn't brilliant.

It's a pleasure alright, and I don't feel guilty about it at all!.

A NASA space mission up to Mars fails to get off the ground due to major technical problems. Fearing funding could be taken away and wishing to avoid embarrassment, the powers that be decide to do a fake landing in a studio. With More

I wished I had seen "Capricorn One" before watching "Hangar 18". I think I would have like it more. The Mars landing conspiracy of "Capricorn One" paled in comparison to the hidden UFO cover-up of "Hangar 18". Regardless, I do think that "Capricorn One" is a better movie.
