World Premiere Review:

It was ok. It's not entirely interesting and it's the standard Marvel formula. However, it's lacking a critical element of a Marvel hero: a flaw.
The best thing about the MCU is that there isn't a Superman equivalent...but there is now and I'm not sure I like it. I'm afraid now that Endgame concludes with believing in yourself can defeat Thanos...
Second watch: The main issue remains Captain Miscast

Everyone complained about Rey being a Mary Sue, but I didn't mind it. Not sure if I'll feel the same about this.

Seems like there is more people complaining about this before they've even seen it though. Daisy Ridley is alot more tolerable in real life, for most people, than Brie Larson is though.

@cdfroese Brie is really emotional and doesn't take criticism very well. She was having trouble not crying in her little speech before the movie started.

Pro’s:
- Good storyline, with an interesting mystery hook (also some good, unpredictable twists)
- Fantastic supporting characters (Nick Fury, Talos, Supreme Intelligence, Monica Rambeau, Goose)
- Neat CGI (de-ageing is really well done)
- The Skrulls
- Score and soundtrack
- The 90’s vibe/tone
- Overall, it’s pretty good visually (although the space stuff looks way better than the earth stuff)

Con’s:
- Carol Danvers needs a more defined, and flawed (don't just tell us she's flawed) personality going forward
- Some overediting in the action scenes
- Inconsistently paced (the second act is noticeably slower)
- Creates a bit of a plot hole for the MCU (I think Fury’s pager makes no sense given what we’ve already been through in The Avengers and Winter Soldier)

6.5/10

This is the first super hero movie I've ever seen where I have actually read the bulk of the comics that the movie is based on. So maybe I'm too close to it to see the big picture.
I loved this movie. They 100% crush the characterisation of Carol. She is exactly the person I love from the comics I love.
I was a bit thrown by the framing at the start, but once the film gets its legs everything is great. I think this is deliberate through, because it gives you the same uneasy feeling Carol is going through with her memory loss.
Everything else plays out like a pretty straightforward action movie.
Samuel L Jackson looks amazing considering he is playing 30 years younger than he is. Ben Mendelsohn stands out in every scene he is in. Brie Larson does a perfect job.
Overall, pretty good film.

Maybe my least favorite Marvel, and that's saying something. I like boring in many instances, but I was bored. Brie Larson not acting well? Wasn't expecting that.

@hildebread seems like you are a little bit hasty, my friend. Well, you can always watch Room (2016), after that we can discuss if Brie has one facial expression or not. The academy is way ahead of you in this matter tho lol

This was totally disappointing.
The whole movie revolves about her finding her identity allegedly, but she never ends up being the main focus of the narrative, They wanted a strong female character who fights her own battles but made her a confused character with no sense of self. Entertaining but not all that. I'll stick with Wonder woman when it comes to super ladies that can kick ass for now.
