I really wanted to like this, it has raw and creepy visuals, an interesting premise... BUT... oh my good...
so many mind-numbing stupid decisions by the main character! 200 dollars to put a chained leash? you put your hand through a hole in a room that YOU KNOW that your enemy is there and you don't have a full view of the room? YOU PICK UP THE PHONE TO DO A PHONE CALL INSTEAD OF REACH FOR THE KEY!?!? and I don't get it the supernatural part of the movie... it feels like a totally separated movie. It would be nice if the supernatural was just a fear/anxiety induced thought/visions/paranoia.
in the right hands I can see this movie rebooted with a nice low budget and great box-office returns.

_Caveat_ is an isolated haunted house horror film that surprisingly surpassed my expectations. It's minimal and slow but the way the story told is very fresh filled with gripping mystery and uneasy feel throughout. It's clearly low budget but what they did is impressive, especially when it comes to utilizing its location. Every single moment is very compelling. It excels at keeping me on the edge of my seat and carefully reveals new details bit by bit combined with very claustrophobic atmosphere and super effective sound. The scares are fantastic, they don't feel cheap at all. The last act was so frightening, probably will stick with me for a while.

The girl says his dad killed his mum and then he still calls the uncle who is a killer and ask proof of him???
It had good creepy visuals and stuff tho.

I loved it simply because it made me feel more anxious than any movie I've ever watched. I don't smoke and I never have, but I genuinely felt like I needed a cig after finishing it. I'll forgive it for all of its plot holes because by the end of the movie every question I had was overshadowed by this feeling of "I don't give a fuck what's happening here just get me OUT OF THIS PLACE." It makes me feel similar to how I would expect to feel if I was in a situation like this. Typically I want to know everything that's going on by the end of the movie, but with this I just didn't care. I just wanted to escape this feeling of dread and anxiety and confusion. I'm not sure if that was the intent of the director, but if it was he did a great job.

I'll also forgive its faults due to the fact that it's a directorial debut. It's an incredible start to what I hope is a long career for this guy. I'm looking forward to what he makes next.

The setup is very promising but it doesn’t quite deliver on the scares front. Occasionally creepy but ultimately underwhelming.

It's extremely rare I turn a movie off before it's finished but I did just that. After 40 minutes this still wasn't going anywhere. The moody characters are just boring. Also nobody would say yes to being chained up like that. Not in that context. I had this on my watch list for so long cause the bunny looked interesting but not even that could save it.

Film, as a subjective art form, is a funny thing sometimes.
I watched this with my flatmate, who thought this was "one of the worst movies of all time" - I rated it a solid 5 for the following reasons:
* It doesn't quite nail the aesthetic it was obviously aiming for (it's not "scary")
* I wouldn't class this as a horror, it's more a "psychological thriller" and even then, only in certain parts (the end scenes mainly)
* As another person commented, the main character makes some decisions that don't make logical sense in a real life scenario - this takes away from the immersion and turns some scenes into more of a comedy (my flatmate laughed out loud multiple times through the movie)
* The ending is more confusing than Donnie Darko
I think it's worth a watch, just don't go into it thinking its the "scariest movie recently made" or anything like that, it's just another quirky alternate film with room for the director to improve.

[Sitges FF] Rarely has a toy rabbit been so disturbing. The suspense is clever, and although Mc Carthy cites "The thing" (1982) as an influence, there is a reinterpretation of Alice (the hole, the rabbit ...) whose bizarre atmosphere seems to be taken from Jan Svankmajer's version in "Alice" (1988). There are also holes in the story, but the setting is extraordinary, a decrepit vision that reflects moral decay.
