So, Child's Play was a good movie.

I wouldn't exactly call it great, hell compared to the other Chucky movies I would put them above this one. I don't really like how Chucky was portrayed, is my main issue. See, in the original films, Chucky is a loud mouth, sexist, alcoholic asshole who kills for fun because he enjoys it. His one-liners rival that of Freddy Krueger, and his kills are some of the most creative in all of horror. However, in this film, they made him almost sympathetic in a way. Like, Chucky does what he does because he doesn't want anyone coming between his best friend (Andy Barclay). While, in the original films, Andy Barclay is merely a means to an end for Chucky, who's only using Andy for a vessel to transfer his soul into.

However, the reason I rate this film so high is because on its own, when not comparing it to the original Chucky films, Child's Play is a fun horror flick. Each kill is great, gory, over the top fun, and while I personally don't like how Chucky was portrayed compared to the original, his portrayal works on its own merit here. The acting really lands, and I especially like the relationship between Andy and his mom, and how this portrayal of Karen Barclay is more laid back and chill than the original. Though, in the original Child's Play, Andy is only six years old, and here he's about thirteen.
