For the first time in history, mental illness and suicide have become one of the greatest threats to school-aged children. Many parents still view dangers as primarily physical and external, but they’re missing the real danger: kids spending more time online and less time engaging in real life, free play, and autonomy. What are the effects on the next generation's mental, physical, and spiritual health? Childhood was more or less unchanged for millennia, but this is Childhood 2.0.

Coming on the heals of The Social Dilemma, I came across this documentary on YouTube which, I think, is much more direct in its message of cause and effect. If you are parents, or even aunts/uncles/grandparents of ‘online’ kids (8-20) I’d recommend watching this. In the end, it doesn’t advocate an all out ban on devices/online access but does advocate we, as the adults in the room, know as much or more about the technology/apps/people that kids are interacting with and not allowing ourselves to say ‘NMK’ - Not My Kid. Children need to learn and understand technology but they also need to learn and understand the power, for both good and evil, it has and then know where their safe haven is as they navigate this ever connected world. It’s a good watch.
