Though most people associate Christmas films of the classic era with _White Christmas_ or _It's a Wonderful Life_, there are many worthwhile holiday classics from the 1940s. _Christmas in Connecticut_ is one of the funniest holiday comedies of the era. The all star cast reaches far beyond Stanwyck to brilliant performances by Sydney Greenstreet, S.Z. Sakall, Dick Elliott and Reginald Gardiner. Though the film does have a ton of twists and turns, they aren't so unbelievable as to make the film unwatchable. Indeed, they are more believable then _It's A Wonderful Life_.

Classic Romantic Comedy - subterfuge, comedic twists, great cast, romantic chemistry, all leading to the inevitable resolve. I'm used to seeing an older Barbara Stanwick in gritty dramatic roles but she sparkles in this. Dennis Morgan brings his good looks and great voice to the incidental music. I never tire of the quirky characters and comedic virtuosity of S.Z. Sakall. This little gem was new to me, but is on more than a few Top Christmas movies lists. I very much injoyed the romp and give this a 7.9 (enjoyable) out of 10. [Classic RomCom]

Barbara Stanwyck stars in the screwball comedy Christmas in Connecticut. New York society columnist Elizabeth Lane, who writes a cooking column pretending to be a country homemaker with a husband and child, is forced to make her homemaker persona real when her publisher arranges for a returning soldier, who’s a fan of hers, to have an old fashion Christmas with her and her “family”...and hilarity ensues. Stanwyck gives a strong performance and is especially good at the farcical style comedy. And, the writers impressively avoid some of the more common tropes of the genre, which helps to keep the characters from becoming clichéd stereotypes. A fun and entertaining film, Christmas in Connecticut delivers plenty of laughs and holiday cheer.
