With such enthusiasm for facial recognition amongst the corporate world, I often see people make the assumption that it most work or it wouldn't be so popular.

And maybe it does in some situations.

But Coded Bias, focusing largely on facial recognition, highlights the other side of the discussion - the aspect that us often ignored by the senior decision makers.

And sure, it is easy to so "only impacts minorities" - but in my city, only around 25% of people are white males, so the minority can be pretty big.

Strongly recommended

"Work" for what and whom? I only trust that it is already and will continue to be used for any and all abuses of the civil liberties and rights of groups and the individual.

Ironically, this "documentary" is biased af. Only shows one side of the problem and cherry picks specific examples. Don't waste your time.

Woke Recognition is what is needed, not the ability for government and corporations to follow everyone everywhere.

A pure white drama mask is on the cover. Is it tragedy or comedy?

I'm not sure how hard it is or would be to map-out black (lighter-skinned, bi-racial POC would have Recognizable Face Privilege!) faces. There are Europeans from the Balkans with darker skin than many people considered to be bkack. Italians, Serbs, Greeks...blacker than blacks! That's where the Ethnic Recognition Retinal Scanner comes in handy!

Or, imagine an African country trying to spy on its citizens. They'd get the Black-African Facial Recognition!

Woke Facial Recognition! ANY Facial recognition is a danger to liberty.

The bias may be against spending more money to map-out darker skin! If "they all look the same, I suppose tge the danger is that all "black" people can be accused of crimes and locked up. (Hey! You fit the description!) Or it could possibly lead to a random non-white be falsely imprisoned. Good deal for the killer!

Since almost no one is actually black, I hope this documentary spells-out how dark a skin is required for the technology to make the individuals "all look the same."

Amazing. Well produced but more importantly, a great documentation of an important movement. To paraphrase the film, AI cannot be allowed to follow society's norms or there will be no social progression.

It's the thing that should not be. But, it's here. Most people will accept it quite casually as a "need for our national security". To be able to identify everyone, anytime, anywhere, that is. Snowden showed the world how the NSA, CIA and Booze Alan Hamilton look at and save everything that's online, nothing specified. Much of the world seems to live online, though. These are totalitarian tools. There will be nothing to prevent the powerful from doing anything they want.
